1998 Ford Explorer - The Drivers Side Switch will not lock doors.

The Drivers Side Switch will not lock doors. It will unlock the doors but will not lock. I have replaced the master lock switch and still the same problem. I can only lock the doors using any other lock switch on any other door or using my key fob.

Check the wiring going to the driver door switch. Check where it goes into the door and check for a pin push out in the door switch connector.

Door lock problems

You most likely have a worn out actuator on the driver side door. When you push the unlock button, the actuator is the device that actually moves the lock linkage rod up or down to operate the lock.
The actuator on the driver side door usually fails first because it is used more often than all the other doors. I had to have these replaced on my 2000 Navigator, and they cost me about 250 each to replace (the part is around 80-100 dollars, but the labor is relatively high).

I have a 1998 Ford Explorer. The door lock on the driver side will not unlock the doors as it use too. I can unlock the doors from passenger side some times, but not all the time. I just had a new door...

First I suggest check and re-check wires and harnesses connections at/from door lock switches at/from drivers side, some loss or harnesses connections sometimes make this wrong.

If, before this replacement your locks system was working fine, a bad installation could damage this and other components. This could be the answer at intermitent keyless work, or your secuirty entry module is advice go to bad. There isn't way to test this, try re-sunchronized the keys according with your Owners Manual procedure o just will reprogramming with the dealer tools.

Hope this helps.

1998 Ford Explorer--The lock on the drivers side doesn't work with the remote. What do I look for?

If the remote unlocks the passenger side and the switch on the door works it would likely be a broken wire from the RAP module.
I suspect that the broken wire will most likely be at the point where it gets the most abuse. That would be where the wires come from the body to the door. Over time, these wires get bent thousands of times and can eventually break.
Worth a look, you may find some others broken or cracked there as well.

I hope your repair goes well.
Thank you for using FixYa.

Driver side unlock button will not unlock any doors.

Try taking the switch out and spraying it with some electrical cleaner. It's probably just dirty. If not, replace the switch.

Power door locks; unlock but not lock.

replace switch. if problem on all doors replace master on driver side door. switch has two modes: lock & unlock. Unlock is working, lock is not working, means power is good, individual switches are good, master switch is bad. Replace from used car fine.

1998 Ford Explorer Door Lock

Hey guys , i got one that i think i know whats wrong but i want to check with others to see, ok so here it is my lock switch on the drivers side only unlocks the doors it does not lock but all the other lock switches in the car fully work so im thinkin maybe its the driver side door lock switch.

This is a common problem with this model. If you access the wires in the boot between the door you will find a broken wire about an inch from the connector. Hope this helps!!
