I have a 1999 Honda Civic 1.6L Auto. It hasn't been driven for four weeks. Now it won't start, the battery is great, it turns over good, but it has no spark at the plugs. What could it be?

  • tschulz3 Oct 07, 2009

I disconnected and re-connected the nwires at the distributor. The contact points didn't seem fouled. I have a friend who is a somewhat mechanic, who thought it might be the Ignition module, but if
I buy one I can't return it, so I was wondering what the liklihood was that this could be it?

That's rare for a no spark to occur after only 1 month. Make sure the battery is fully charged and check the distributer cap/rotor points for corrosion.

Did you try those suggestions already?? Unfortunately there is not won't start after 4 weeks solution. You have to start eliminating the possible causes. It could be fouled plugs, bad distributer, cap, rotor, wires, coil pac or igniton module... As i stated there is not 1 thing that automatically fails after a car has been sitting so you have to check them all.... I have a 98 honda civic and know it inside and out. It sits for weeks at a time as i have 6 vehicles and it starts fine everytime so start with the simple things first then get into the coil pack and ignition module.

I took spark plugs out of 2001 Ford Ranger 3.0L to place plug fowlers in. Spark plug will fit in fowlers, however; fowlers will not fit in engine. Placed plugs back in engine and now will not start.

Sounds like that car is the proverbial POS. Did you check for spark? - need a strong one with a car burning that much oil and the plugs getting fouled like that. Need to replace those rings!

I have replaced the camshaft sensor, Crankshaft sencor, computer, crankshaft pully, and new spark plugs on my 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse and it still won't start, what could it be?

Engine needs spark, fuel and air to run. I assume the starter is turning the engine over. Have you verified you have spark at the plugs? Have you verified you have fuel pressure? Can you hear the fuel pump when you first turn the ignition key? If, yes to those, check the timing belt settings to make sure something hasn't caused the timing to change.

Check the coils that have been replace for bent or broken prongs that plug into the ignition control module and if nothing looks damaged then i would think the ignition control module is faulty.Replace ignition control module.

1999 chevy k2500. changed spark plugs 4 times in 7 months. Runs good for a week then doesn't start. Changed spider, throttle body sensor. Still has no codes and once again won't start.

The next time it won't start ,pull a sparkplug wire and see if you're getting fire. Then we'll known whether its a ignition or fuel problem and go from there.

Wont start takes hours to start again

.When the injectors leak they flood the engine and holding pedal to the floor or waiting hours for fuel to dissipate. See if you have spark and fuel when it wont run. If there is no spark check the electronic control module under the cap

1994 camry won't start after cleaning under the hood check dist. cap replaced spark plugs sounds like its going to start then doesn't.

Sounds like wet or moist spark plug wires. If this also occurs during early morning high dew point humid air, then you may have spark plug wires shorting out.

Replace wires.
