Make sure fuel pump actually works.have somebody turn on switch you should hear whining noise as the pump comes on and the system pressurizes .if the pump makes no noise or sound check the fuel pump fuse if it still does not work check the fuel pump relay circuit for open circuit

when you first try getting fuel going. you may have to turn the key on and off a few times to build up pressure. if you can hear the pump working it will change when it builds up pressure. if its not then I would say you have a line leaking. check all your connections before you have a fire

How to bleed fuel filter

Gary, fuel filters do not get air trapped in them, and never get bled, just replaced when too old or dirty. Maybe you need a new one.
Do you hear the pump buzz on for a couple of seconds when turning key to on? It should come on long enough to pressurize the lines, and then the computer will turn it off if it doesn't get a crank signal. You may have to stand near the tank while someone turns key to ON. If you hear that short buzz or humming sound, then the pump is working. If no sound when key is turned on, the pump may have failed, or the wiring or relay to the pump needs diagnosing. Occasionally, a pump will work but not build enough pressure for the injectors to work properly. Presssure would be about 40 psi for a mpfi system, so you might want to have the fuel pressure checked. Or if you have a test port, a schraeder valve (looks like a air valve on a tire) located on the engine fuel rail, just depress the valve with a little screwdriver and see if gas shoots out. Remember, that's 40 psi, so don't have your face over it- it may shoot up to the top of the open hood. Engine does not need to be running. Just turn key to on for a few seconds, so the pump will pressurize the system. Pressure yes? Fuel system is good, The only other thing to check in the fuel system would be if the injectors are pulsing, letting gas into the cylinders.
Good luck. If fuel system is good, move to the ignition system, and check for spark at the plugs.

I changed the fuel pump on a 1997 Monte Carlo 3.4 motor and now I have no fuel pressure. The pump motors turns on but it doesn't pump any gas. Do I have to bleed the fuel system? and how do I do...

Disconnect fuel filter near tank and turn on, if you still hear the pump pulse and nothing comes out, a good chance that little 3" hose between pump and pick-up tube came off. Also, make sure it wasn't ran dry. There is no bleeding. Check the fuel rail schrader valve if you have fuel at the fuel filter. Good luck, will check on you later.......

How do i change the fuel filter in my gmc sierra 3500 diesel 6.5 and whear is located??

FUEL FILTER MOUNTED ON A BRACKET TO THE REAR OF THE INTAKE MANIFOLD.TO REMOVE FUEL FILTER.TURN OFF IGNITION.RELEASE ANY PRESSURE OR VACUUM IN THE TANK.DRAIN THE FUEL FROM THE FUEL FILTER BY OPENING BOTH THE AIR BLEED AND THE WATER DRAIN VALVE ALLOWING THE FUEL TO DRAIN INTO A SUITABLE CONTAIMER.UNSTRAP BOTH BAIL WIRES WITH A SUITABLE TOOL AND REMOVE THE FILTER.INSTALLING THE NEW FILTER ENSURE THAT BOTH FILTER MOUNTING PLATE FITTINGS ARE CLEAR OF DIRT.SNAP THE FILTER INTO PLACE WITH THE BAIL WIRES.CLOSE THE WATER DRAIN VALVE AND OPEN THE AIR BLEED VALVE.CONNECT A 1/8 INCH I.D HOSE TO THE AIR BLEED PORT AND PLACE THE OTHER END INTO A SUITABLE CONTAINER.DISCONNECT THE FUEL INJECTION PUMP SHUTDOWN SOLENOID WIRE.CRANK THE ENGINE FOR 10 - 15 SECONDS THEN WAIT 1 MINUTE FOR THE STARTER MOTOR TO COOL.REPEAT UNTIL CLEAR FUEL IS OBSERVED COMING FROM THE AIR BLEED.IF ENGINE IS TO BE CRANKED OR STARTED WITH THE AIR CLEANER REMOVED CARE MUST BE TAKEN TO PREVENT DIRT FROM BEING PULLED INTO THE AIR INLET MANIFOLD WHICH COULD RESULT IN ENGINE DAMAGE.CLOSE THE AIR BLEED VALVE RECONNECT THE INJECTION PUMP SOLENOID WIRE AND REPLACE THE FUEL TANK CAP.START THE ENGINE ALLOW IT TO IDLE FOR 5 MINUTES AND CHECK THE FUEL FILTER FOR LEAKS.

Starting car is problem. it will start after maybe two trys. i have tried engine cleaner, but still it is slow starting,. battery is good, thats been checked.

When you have an engine that is hard to start or the engine takes longer than normal to start, with a fuel injected engine it will normally be caused by a fuel problem. Another problem would be slow cranking of the engine because of a low battery, I would check all of the fuel related problems if the engine seems to crank normally. There are a few things to check. First pull the fuel filter off and wipe it off so you don't get gas in your mouth and try to blow through one of the fuel connections on the filter. If you can't blow through it the filter is pluged and needs to be replaced. A plugged fuel filter can cause hard starting and can also damage your fuel pump. The next thing to do when everything is put back on the car is to check the fuel system for bleed down. You need to locate the fuel pressure test connection on the engine. Connect a fuel pressure gauge to the connection and start the engine, then turn the ignition off. With the engine off the pressure should read and stay between 30psi and 40psi, to be sure of the pressure you will have get the spec's on the engine you have. The main thing you will be looking for is to make sure the pressure doesn't start bleeding down in to direction of zero after a few minutes or maybe even immediately. If you see the pressure start to bleed down you have a problem. There are two problems that normally cause the pressure to bleed down. One is a bad check valve in the fuel pump, the other is a bad fuel pressure regulator. The main thing that happens with a fuel pressure regulator is the diaphram inside starts leaking. When that happens sometimes it will leak fuel into the intake manifold through the vaccuum hose connection to the intake manifold. To check for a fuel leak through the vacuum hose connection, locate the vacuum hose on the fuel pressure regulator and pull the hose from either the manifold connection or from the connection at the fuel reguator. If you see any gas at all the fuel regulator is leaking and must be replaced. If it is a slow leak from the regulator you might have to start the engine with the vacuum hose disconnected and look for a leak from the hose. If you don't find anything wrong with the regulator the next problem area would be fuel pressure bleeding back into the gas tank because of a bad check valve in the fuel pump. If this is the problem the fuel pump would have to be replaced. My first guess as to what is causing your problem would be the fuel pressure regualtor although I would definately want to make sure the fuel filter is not plugged. (Please Note) The fuel pressure regulator is located in the intake manifold area of the engine. The fuel pump is located in the gas tank. The fuel filter is located usually somewhere under the car.

Stalls after strting. need to depress the gas to start it

the fuel pump pressure is bleeding down, this is not supposed to happen, the fuel pump has a check valve built into the out or pressure port, when this check valve ball starts leaking u get air in the lines and need to press the gas to help bleed it out, u will need to replace the fuel pump.

Got fire but wont stay running without starter fluid ]

You may have a dirty Fuel filter or a bad fuel pump and will need to be replaced. Start with the fuel filter first since it's the easier one to replace and if you can get and fuel pressure regulator, check the fuel pressure at the shredder valve to make sure the fuel pump is pushing enough pressure. Not sure which engine code you have, X should have 42-45psi and the W should have 62-65psi. Good luck and hope this helps.

the fuel pressure if leaking could cause this the regulator is located under the intake plenum but you should smell gas .if you dont then most likely the pump is bad ,the pump will come on for 2 seconds when the key is on then go off it will not stay on with just the key on only when you crank it will it .so have your fuel pressure checked with a gauge.
