Question about Ford Tempo
The very first thing i would do is pop the hood and just check and see how much transmission flood is in it. It's possible if it has been sitting a long time their might of been a small leak you didn't know about. the 2nd thing id do if possible is climb under the car if weeds have been growing up under it and pull out any weeds stuck up inside the bottom side of the car, and do the same thing in the motor area.
Im assuming that your car is still drivable in 1st gear. If so take it to a nearest autozone they can hook it up to the computer and give ya some codes to trouble shoot your issue more..
however the problem probably is a problem with the
throttle valve or linkage. The throttle valve is a valve in the valve body that is connected to the engine throttle linkage by a rod to a lever on the
top of the transmission. Many times the valve becomes stuck in the
valve body, its possible its gotten stuck do to rust, or other bodies of material. If you are lucky, the linkage
may be disconnected and holding the lever down. The part is proably aroudn 35.00 dollars also. If ts the transmission itself then you'll need a new one or have it rebuilt.
