Where is the crankshaft position sensor located on a 2001 Grand Cherokee with a V-8 engine ?

Thanks for the information on the location of the crankshaft position sensor on the 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a V-8 engine. I don't know if you read my original problem but the engine will not restart after it has been driven and reaches operating temp. It takes about a 30 to 40 minute cool down before it will restart. When cool it starts and runs great and does not shut off when running, it just won't restart. It has fuel pressure at the rail when it will not start. Do you know if this is a common problem with this vehicle and do you think it is the crank sensor ? I have seen a similar problem with a Jeep Cherokee with a 6 cylinder engine. It would stop running and not restart until it cooled down, and the problem was the crank sensor. Any more information on the problem would be greatly appreciated before I invest in a new crand sensor.

    Thanks

Where is the crankshaft position - 4c888f4.jpg here is a picture of what your looking for to start.

it's located on the rear(trany) of where the engine and trany bolt together. on a left side drive, looking from front to back, it would be in about the 1-O'clock position. the wire runs up between the engine and firewall and conects into the harness near the back of the head.

before you replace it try cleaning and tightening up the connection into the wiring harness

sorry for the trouble the only part of the question i got was "Where is the crankshaft position sensor located on a 2001 Grand Cherokee with a V-8 engine ?" however your hunches on what the problem might be is prob. correct. Try to take it to your nearest autozone or ol'riles if you have one in your town.
They have a portable machine that they can plug into your vehicle, and might be able to diagnostic your problems, or see if you have any others. Sorry again, but the only part I got to the question was where was it located.

Wear is crank sensor 2001 grand cherokee jeep

Hi Patrick:
The Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP) is mounted into the engine block above the starter motor. Engine speed and crankshaft position are provided through the crankshaft position sensor. The sensor generates pulses that are the input sent to the powertrain control module (PCM). The PCM interprets the sensor input to determine the crankshaft position. The PCM then uses this position, along with other inputs, to determine injector sequence and ignition timing. The sensor is a Hall effect device combined with an internal magnet. It is also sensitive to steel within a certain distance from it.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

REMOVAL - 4.7L
The Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP) on the 4.7L V–8 engine is bolted to the front/top of the right cylinder head (CMP Location—4.7L Engine).

It is easier to remove/install sensor from under vehicle.

Raise and support vehicle.
Disconnect electrical connector at CMP sensor (CMP Location—4.7L Engine).
Remove sensor mounting bolt (CMP Location—4.7L Engine).
Carefully twist sensor from cylinder head.
Check condition of sensor o-ring.
See picture for sensor location.

Where is locate the camshaft position sensor on 2001 jeep grand cherokee laredo limited 4.7 l

The camshaft position sensor is located inside the distributor. It is a hall effect swich, simply remove the distributor cap and the rotor and you can lift it out, unplug and replace.
Have fun but beware a bad crankshaft position sensor can cause a false cam sensor code to be set sometimes.
Good luck.

On the top of the bellhousing. From the drivers point of view it is in the 11:00 o'clock position. The harness wraps around the back of the bellhousing and plugs in on the passenger side of the block near the oil sending unit.
