sometimes i have problems starting my car, it tries to crank over but wont start, sometimes i seem to have this problem after i refuel, also i have some brake issues that have questions about, a couple of months ago my front brakes locked up briefly but i haven't had any problems with it locking up ever since other then grinding noises and spongy low pedal feeling, i was hoping i could save some money and just have the pads changed instead of replacing the calipers. what advice can you give me?

Was it running fine when running? And if its not cranking (the motor not spinning over) only a few things could be the case; battery dead, bad starter, wiring coroded or bad ignition. Start with a full battery first (or try and jump the car and see if it fires)..

Yes you are right, if the starter is bad and the battery is good yes the clicking is the result, but could also be corroded wiring that doesn't allow enough voltage tot he starter and the result would also be clicking sound or not enough power to kick the starter out to engage the flywheel.. As far as the brakes the spongy feel is probably worn pad or bad master cylinder. The grinding is not calipers, its low brake pads digging/dragging to the rotors/drums after the pad has worn down too low (never a good thing) and if not addressed right away you will need new rotors/drums

The most likely cause of this problem is that the fuel pump inside the gas tank is failing, if this is the original pump and has more than 100,000 miles on the car it is almost certainly the pump that is the problem, u must drop the fuel tank out to replace he electric fuel pump, it is a very dirty difficult job best left to a qualified shop.

2001 lincoln ls wont start with v-8 engine

When you say it won't start do you mean the engine will not turn over with the starter like in a dead battery type of no start, or do you mean the engine cranks over fine but doesn't start? If the latter is the case check the fuel pressure, the test port is on the top of the engine and looks like a tire fill valve, it should be at least 45 PSI while cranking the engine over, you will need to buy a universal fuel injection fuel pressure test gauge from the parts store, about $20.00 should do it.

My 1995 Lincoln Mark 8 wont start how do I know its the fuel pump

go out and sit in your car with the door open turn on the ignition key and when you turn it on you should hear the fuel pump prime in the gas tank, if you hear it prime up then its something else. If you don't its the pump.

Hi i have a '95 lincoln mark 8, and recently i have had problems starting my car, it tries to start but wont crank over, but i only have this problem some times, the past couple of days i have'nt had any...

two things to check, when was the late time you had a tune-up done ??? next, get a fuel pressure tester. hook up to the fuel rail. key on, engine off, pressure could be at least 35 - 45 PSI. get a hanes manual #59010. it will help you troubleshoot. fuel filter is a good place to start. should replace filter every 2 years.

i'm assuming you fixed the hose. you have to do a pressure test to make sure fuel is getting to engine. my book says to remove fuel filter cap and have someone turn the key to on position (engine not running) while you listen at the fuel filter opening. you should hear a whirring sound for a couple seconds. if you don't hear any thing check the fuse.if thats ok, check the relay.

Intermittently wont start,

I had the same problem with my 1995 Mark VIII. the problem turned out to be a combination of plugged fuel filter and the sock filter in the fuel tank. when the car sat for a while the sediment blocking the sock would fall off the sock filter in the tank, but once you start driving it will pick it back up and block the pump from retrieving enough fuel.
