I had the same problem with my Pontiac Sunfire. I had to replace the ignition module. Cleared it right up.

Check for power coming from coil packs to wires, could be bad wires, coil packs, ignition module(under coilpacks). check all fuses as well

SOURCE: spark plug gap

Notice: This engine has aluminum cylinder heads. Do not remove the spark plugs from a hot engine, allow it to cool first. Removing the spark plugs from a hot engine may cause spark plug thread damage or cylinder head damage.
Gap the spark plug, using round wire type spark plug gap gage.

Gap Adjust the spark plug gap to 1.14 mm (0.045 in).

DO NOT coat the spark plugs with anti seize compound. Over torquing could occur and damage to the cylinder head threads may result.

If your going to use Platnum plugs, DO NOT GAP them. Just check the gap and if there not the right gap, ask for new one's with the right gap.

The metal on the PLatnum plugs, are harder and my break apart in the cylinder .

Good luck and hope this helps

Describe where to find spark plugs on a 2004 pontiac sunfire.

If you have the DOHC 4 cylinder engine, the long ribbed center section on top of the engine contains the ignition module and coils. Release the 4? bolts and lift the assembly up to expose the spark plugs

How to change spark plugs in a 1998 Pontiac Sunfire GT

Dear Angel Divine, First determine whether you have a 4cyl. or V6 engine, then look at the engine bank/banks for the exhaust manifold and then the intake manifold, The plugs will be either be between the 2 manifolds(center of cylinder head) or between the exhaust manifold tubes. Call me back if you still have trouble. quicbric(volvo man)
