Hi, I have a 2007 Acura MDX and the tail liftgate won't open.

There could be several reasons why the liftgate on your Acura MDX is not opening all the way. Here are a few things you can try to troubleshoot the issue:
  1. Check the latch mechanism: Make sure that the latch mechanism on the liftgate is not damaged or stuck. You may be able to manually release the latch by pushing on the release button or pulling on the emergency release cord (if your vehicle has one).
  2. Inspect the liftgate struts: The liftgate struts may be worn out or damaged, preventing the liftgate from opening all the way. If the struts are the issue, they will need to be replaced.
  3. Check the liftgate hinges: Make sure that the hinges on the liftgate are not damaged or stuck. If the hinges are the problem, they may need to be lubricated or replaced.
  4. Check the wiring and connections: Make sure that all of the wiring and connections to the liftgate motor and latch mechanism are secure and in good condition.
  5. Check for any foreign objects: Make sure that there are no foreign objects blocking the liftgate from opening all the way.
If you have tried these troubleshooting steps and are still unable to get the liftgate to open, it may be necessary to have the issue diagnosed and repaired by a mechanic.

I have a 2007 Suburban, and the lift gate opens up about 1/4 the way and then drops to the closed position. This happens regardless of how it's opened.

{: ) Your liftgate struts (shocks) could have gone weak. If it's a power liftgate, press the off button to disable the power liftgate function, so that you can open the liftgate manually. With a little help from you, extend the liftgate at full open position and check if it will hold itself up there as it normally should. If it starts to fall off as you catch it, that means the liftgate struts don't have enough pressure anymore to push and sustain the weight of the liftgate. Check for signs of leak on the struts, or better if you can replace it both.

The liftgate will not stay open

{: ) The liftgate struts may have become weak. Check for signs of oil leakage on the struts. Better yet, replace the two liftgate struts.

How do I remove and replace the liftgate window struts on a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee

There is a small metal clip/retainer on each end of the struts. Remove is clip and the struts will come off very easily.

I'm having problems with the automatic lift gate in the rear of my 2008 Saturn Outlook. It no longer opens all the way and when you push it up the rest of the way it slowly comes down on its own. What do...

Sounds like lift gate struts. They are readily available and easy to replace.

Here is the instructions for replacing the liftgate struts.
the struts have little metal clip on retainers, use a small flat bladed scredriver to pop out the retainers. also, make sure you have somebody help you hold up the liftgate while changing the struts. the liftgates are very heavy and can cause injury
• Release the locking tabs on the strut. • Ensure the clip is fully seated when rod is reinstalled. If the clip cannot be fully seated, a new rod should be installed.

Hi, I have a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 'stuck' liftgate latch. It is stuck closed, so that I cannot close the liftgate. I have sprayed it with WD-40, Silicone spray, no luck. It feels like a spring...

Hi! The spring on the locking mechanism may be broken. You need to replace this spring. If you cannot find a spring for the locking mechanism then you can start putting on a similar one just as long that its powerful enough to hold the trigger on the latch. You may need pliers, spring, 12 or 14 closed / open wrench. Hope this helps and have a good one!

How do I disconnect the rear Liftgate Support Rods for a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee ZJ?

If you look at the rod end over the ball socket u will see a flat U shaped spring clip, use a small screwdriver and remove it, be sure to have the gate supported when you pull the gas lift off.
