Generaly you need a working key to remove an ignition Barrell.

You have to partialy turn the lock to a point where a little plunger can be depresed, allowing you to pull the barrell out.

THis is only general info, you will have to have a close look.
If you dont have the key, your in trouble.

Remove lower instrument panel trim. remove 2 steering column to dash/brake support nuts and lower steering column. remove screws holding ignition switch to column and lift switch off of lock rod. first remove black harness connector, then remove white connector from switch.

My 98 jeep grand cherokee wont start. It doesnt even click or turn over. battery is fine, headlights, dome lights, all go on. Radio doesnt work with ignition on. I checked ALL the fuses, I replaced the...

fuse 8 40a supplies power to starter relay and ignition switch, to close the starter solenoid and engage the starter which draws directly from the battery. check to see that the starter relay is closing, if not ensure that the park neutral switch is not faulty (open circuit), it provides path to close relay (ground side) on the 85 - 86 terminals. if the starter relay does not close the starter will not run. if you have a spare relay swap out the relay for a quick fix attempt. hope this helps

How do you remove the ignition switch from a 1993 jeep Cherokee? Apparently the key switch activates a lever or or rod inside the steering column that operates this switch but how do you get it apart? we...

Disconnect negative battery cable, remove upper and lower covers (three screws); remove the ignition switch mounting screws.

Pull switch away from the column and remove the connectos from the ignition switch.

Sounds like your ignition switch is going bad. Not your lock cylider, but the switch.
