Question about Toyota Starlet

Can you set the ignition timing on a p reg 1.3i 16v toyota starlet or is it controlled by the ECU ? Also the car is jerking and i have been told that it is the fuel pump but i thought they either worked or they didn't, could you please advise, many thanks Steve

Not so, could br fuel pump, and yes computer controled timing if its a new model 1996 and up.

My cambelt snapped on my toyota starlet will it have damaged the head .......My friend told me that depending where the valves were at the time of the break i could be lucky ..there was no banging noise...


Believe your friend is right,easiest way to tell is put a belt on it tho,and hope you are lucky.You wouldn't hear the valves getting bent from the piston.

the starlets heater is controlled by cable,have a look under the hood near firewall where the heater hoses go into it and where the cable attches

Opel astra 1600 16v jerks at low revs when car is hot/warm, fuel filter new air filter new, replaced fuel pressure reg, new plugs, still the same, 3 bar feul rail.


sounds like the iac might be giving problems, check ur idle air control valve on the side of you throttle body if its working right, replace if not.

Ignition timing?
On that engine the ecu reads the crank and cam sensor on startup to determine top dead center and controls the ignition timing and advance from there.. There is no distributor and no timing adjustment.
