Question about 1991 Subaru Legacy

The battery has a draw. If Iunplug the air bypass motor it goes away. My question is why would the computer system be powered up with the key off? the power is coming out of the computer side of the terminal.

Auto trans? if the ignition relay is stuck on, it could cause that to be HOT even if the key is off. check the Yellow/red wire at the air bypass motor,if it has battery power then the relay is stuck OR theres a short to power on that wire. its a brown relay up under and near the steering column.

there is a short, I believe that wire goes to the ECM. I'm not a work so I dont have a wiring diagram but the only wire that should be HOT with the key on is the Y/Gr wire, and it should be dead with key off.

More likley than not there is a short within the valve and it should be exchanged for a new one. If you are able to get one from a salvage yard this would be ideal for they seldom fail. I cannot say that this is precisely your problem without hands on testing of course but I am sure that this is your problem. Thank you, Dana

The computer always stores a certain amount of power to retain codes and parameters.

Constant draw on my battery even with ignition cut off. could this be bad ignition switch. I've checked all else I know to check.

What year , make and model vehicle ? Vehicles from 1996 on have several control moduels - PCM / ECM - engine computer , ABS , air bag's , BCM - body control module etc.. plus a few more , maybe . This module are suppose to power down after 1 hr or longer sometimes . Sometimes they don't an drain the battery down . The way to find for sure what the problem is a parasitic drain testing , hooking up a amp meter an pulling fuse's till the drain goes away . How To Perform Parasitic Draw Test EricTheCarGuy It's probably not the ignition switch .

99 cadillac battery draw

You have to find out what all is on those fuse's and isolate the circuits till you find the draw . Looking at a electrical distribution chart would help ! Free diagrams at http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html
After entering vehicle info . under system click on electrical distribution , then under subsystem click on fuse panel . This will tell you what all that fuse power's up . Disconnect componets till draw goes away . Could be a bad BCM or some other module not powering down .

Why does motor shut off when I turn on the heat and air?

Electrical issue. The heat or air draws more current and the electrical system probably drops voltage below the threshold the electronic control module can handle. First check that the Alternator is charging correctly. When running the system should have 13 to14.7 volts measured at the battery. If you turn on the heat/AC and it drops significantly you have a current draw issue (most likely bad fan motor, or short) If the voltage is below 13 volts when the car is running your alternator is likely bad.

When the temp out side gets up to 80-90 degrees my car want crank

The first thing you need to do is verify that your battery and charging system is in good operaing condition. I have seen sulfated batteries that would have enough power to turn the starter motor, but not enough power to operate the computer engine control system while the starter was cranking. If that is OK, then I would recommend scanning your onboard computer system for fault codes, then diagnose and repair accordingly.

BATTERY IS GOOD SO IS THE STARTER AND THE ALTENATOR WHY DO I KEEP HAVING TO HAVE JUMP STARTS? 1997 FORD ESCORT

How long does it take for the battery to go dead, overnight, couple of days?

Have you checked the electrical system for draws? You'll need a multi meter capable of reading amperage. Disconnect the positive cable and hook the meter up in series with the battery and the positive cable. You want to make sure the key is out of the ignition, all the doors are closed and all the dome lights etc are turned off before doing this. If you get a reading of more than .050 amps than you have a draw. You may have to wait for 20 minutes or so for everything to power down to get an accurate reading.

If you have a draw of more than .050 amps than you can start pulling fuses one at a time until the draw goes away and then focus on the things that fuse supplies power to. Make sure you put the fuse back that you pulled out before pulling the next.

If there are no draws and the battery goes dead overnight disconnect the battery, let it sit overnight and then see if the battery will start the vehicle in the morning. Every once in a while you will run into a battery that has an internal draw and will run itself down all by itself.

I think that my 1998 Cadillac air suspension system is going bad

I had a problem with my '98 Deville. I had a lot of issues with the air shocks and all the other electronic stuff that goes with that. I called the dealer, and they wanted $3500 to fix it!!! I found www.Strutmasters.com and they converted my car to a "passive" suspension, which bypassed that whole computer thing. Now I have a lifetime warranty, and I am VERY satisfied with the ride. The best part is that it only cost $800 and I got all new suspension! I highly recommend them for your vehicle!

Battery goes flat when standing for 5 days. Ford

if the battery is one year old and older, the power drains specially if it stays idle for a week or more. if the battery is new, it will not drain fast. there are components directly connected to the battery bypassing the ignition key such as the clock, warning system, etc.

Battery goes dead when car sits 3-5 days 98 park ave

Obvious that something is drawing down the battery...Put a test light between the negative cable and the negative post of the battery (remove cable first) start pulling fuses till light goes out. That will tell you what system is drawing...you can then begin looking for the actual problem. If all fuses pulled and light remains on ,chances are you have an internal alternator problem.

Battery drain... fuse blew - connect to ballist resister

Do you know anyone with a ammeter? You need to hook one up to the battery to check for draw. If the draw with the key off is more than .025 amps, then pull one fuse out at a time till the draw goes away. When it goes away, that will tell you what circuit to check. Hope this helps. As for fuse #3, I would have to look at a wiring diagram for that.
