This problem is caused by one of two things, either the transfer case actuator motor assmebly is defective or the transfer case clutch is stuck, pull the transfer case actuator off the back of the transfer case and test it to see if it works, you will hear the motor run and the actuator will move, if it does this ok have the transfer case fluid changed and drive it for a few miles and try it again. You can also have the toyota dealer run a diagnostic test on the controller for the case, it can generate a trouble code to help diag the problem part.

Front wheel drive does not work. no locking hubs. solenoid? selector switch? fuse? no clanking, just no drive in 4 high or low

Jack up a front wheel, and see if the front drive shaft is turning when in 4WD?
If it is, then the transfer box is fine, and it is the hubs that are the problem.
Don't know if vacuum or electric, but since both bad, it is probably at the switch.
If front drive shaft not turning, then at the transfer box. Probably a vacuum servo operated linkage. Have one person turn it on and off while watching underneath. Careful to set brake and put in neutral.

I have 98 blaser 4.3 popped in 4x4 by its self now it won't go back in 2hi

does the switch respond to 4 whl and 2 whl? if so there is a vacuum switch on the transfer case that maybe bad and sending vacuum to the actuator under the battery and tray that pulls the axle into 4 whl drive. i would check that first it is common to go bad. good luck

Tire thumping in all 4 wheel drive

Coming from the rear? I could see the noise coming from the front if your axels are bad. It seems weird cause the vehicle would make noises like that in normal driving because they dont change when you switch to 4 wd
