Question about 2000 Chevrolet Blazer

Timing on a 2000 chevy s10 blazer 4.3. Replaced bent push rod and valve, now can't find any specific guidance on how timing is to be set.

The timing is not adjustable. There are two lines on the harmonic balancer, the first line should line up with the mark on the timing cover, towards the bottom, on the driver side of the engine, the second line should line up with an arrow on the timing cover above the first mark. You'll need to have the rotor in the distributor lined up with the "6" on the distributor housing. You may need a long screw driver to turn the oil pump shaft to get the distributor lined up right.

    there are two marks correct and only one v-notch in the plastic timing cover it is not at the bottom of the engine its at the driver side top of the timing cover.

    i am on a 3rd engine on a 1999 never had a issue with getting the timing set and this engine will not start on the first timing mark on the harmonic balancer it will start on the second mark.

    i took it out for a spin ran good the second day i took it out the check engine light came on and the acceleration is slow and the timeing is retarded i think a scan tool said 17 degrees now you clear the codes start the engine the computer advances it but does not accelerate in drive corectly will rev up in netural...... whats this timing advance wire i keep reading about in peoples responces or does the x engines have this wire tan and black the distributer wire on it is a 3 wire do you unplug that and try to start it how can you get it to zero or back to the first timing mark to zero engine has never been apart just pulled and swapped only has 60,000 miles has good injectors any thoughts on the throttle body and the 2 sensors there.... any help e-mail me at posted 5-26-10

Is there anyway that i can fix bent push rods ?

There is no way to repair push rods. If they are bent they need to be replaced. However, the hundred-dollar question is "Why were they bent?" The only thing that will normally bend a push rod is if the pistons hit the valves and compressed and bent the rods. If the push rods are bent, you should go the extra distance to inspect the valves/pistons for damage as well.

Timing chain

bent push rods could have been caused when the chain broke and not from the chain been replaced wrong or the timing out.

if the engine was running when the chain broke the cam would have stopped leaving all the valves in the same positon as the mometum of the fly wheel continued to turn the pistons in the cylendars could hav come up and hitting the valves and bending the push rods. and or damaging the cylendar head.

recommend removing the head and have it checked for damage, as well as replacing the bent push rods, and cylendar gaskit. once the head is checked and the valves are seated well. then replace and follow instructions in the set up for the pistons and cam prior to replacing the chain and setting the timing.

Have you changed the fuel filter lately? If not do so. Sounds like fuel restriction. Filter usually on frame rail passenger side. Good luck!

Why are exhaust valves bending on 97 s-10 blazer. The valves are not sticking. Could I have a timing chain issue? Hard to believe because the motor runs so good until the valves bend. You can see the mark...

bent valves can be from timing belt stretch but would have been running very rough and would have had to be replaced others are bad valve springs- rocker arms not adjusted right- valve sticking-push rods sticking-camshaft walking- oil pressure problems

Random/multiple cylinder misfire detected

when u bent the push rod u might have bent the valve in the head ,by puting the longer push rod where it didnt belong it kept the valve open when the piston came up and the force of the piston on the valve bent the push rod,you will have to remove the head,hope this helps

A puff of smoke when you start up indicates worn valve seals.That's why all your work didn't fix the problem and it doesn't show a code. It's a pain in the --- job that requires some specialized tools so I guess it depends on how bad it bugs you,if oyu want to fix it.

2000 Blazer stuck in 4WD

The first thing I would look at is the shift rod on the transfer case. If I remember correctly, it is on the drivers side and is a rod aboutsix inches long and has two ends that basically pop into rubber gromets. If that rod is bent in any way, or has come loose of the gromets, it will not shift into or out of the four wheel drive. If yours has electronic four wheel drive, the electric acutator could be out or going out. you should be able to remove the rod and simply move the switch by hand on the transfer case. It will get you out of 4 wheel drive until you have the ime to diagnose the electronics at least. It has happened to both my 1994 and 1999 S-10 blazers.

have you checked, cady, fuel tank, is it getting the right amount of gas and air? plugs and wires, go with general mantinence first then step up. i have a 85 s10 blazer that was a lemon off the lot but has over 300000 on it and it has the same prob i fix it tempurary by flipping the lid on the breather upside down so it gets more air
