Most likely,it's the 4x4 shift motor on the transfer case, they get water/dirt/ inside.Check all fuses and connector to 4x4 shift motor.Sometimes you can find a used one,but not too often.

4 wheel drive light flashes, wont lock in but transfer case seems to lock just not differential

You didn't specify which vehicle model you have, but most gm vehicles use vacuum to activate the 4wd system. Check all the vacuum lines you can locate for loose or disconnected line, cracked or gummy feeling lines. If you have the push button 4wd, listen for an audible click when you push the 4wd button. If you don't hear anything, the push button assembly may need replacing. If you did hear the click, then look under the battery tray for a loose vacuum line. Most gm 4wd problems are vacuum related.

Check the oil level in the shift on the fly (sotf) part of the axle thats the left of the front one - it holds about 1 pint of gear oil and gets missed at service time .

Push button won't go into 4wd

We call these push and prays. Push buttons always seem to brake and not work. You can try pushing and than drive in reverse. Also, you should look around tranny to make sure the vaccuum hose didn't come off. There is not much you can personally do about it. Check wires on switch and follow down to tranny. If everything looks legit, than you will have to take it to tranny specialist.

Push button 4wd wont engage in 4wd

there is a small sensor on the top of the transfer case that has three vacume lines into it. that little switch has a bearing that the vacume sucks up to operate the 4 wheel drive. replace as well as check the vacume lines to make sure you dont have a hole or leak in them

99 Blazer-push button 4wd not working

Make sure that all 4 tires have the same tread on them, if one or more of them are different, then the 4wd may not engage. I had the same problem with my blazer, I changed only 2 tires at a time. The front tires would rotate faster than the rear ones, the gears in the transfer case won't line up right.
