How do you drain coolant in 91 735i bmw. car manuel doesnt say how to drain coolant. is there a valve somewhere?

Depending on mileage thats quite a bit of coolant loss. You seemed to have covered most areas. I think its probably something really simple like a bad hose somewhere in the coolant system. The car is nearly 20 years old and hoses degrade over time. Also I have come across a hose that was leaking, but not on the joining point, but through the actual body of the hose, it was porous with no exterior damage. Another quick thought, heater matrix?

you most likely have a hole in radiator hose or heater hose. if the hoses are leaking or if they are swelled then replace

most high performance aluminum engines take red coolant. if you go into auto value or napa they can lead you in the right direction.

If coolant is not circulating there is either a blockage in the line somewhere or most likely you will have to replace the thermostat.

Started overheating one day when idling, but hit the gas and temp went back down. now overheats within 5 minutes and doesnt go back down. coolant seems to disappear slowly, coolant in radiator is bubbly,...


Sounds like you have a leak somewhere. A good place to check first is the heater core. It is on the passenger side under the dash. Check the floor carpet and under the carpet if it is wet or any signs of antifreeze. If so than your heater core is leaking, and since you don't have heat it is of course broken. This could also the the reason why you have bubbly coolant, with air leaking into the system.

I would start with that.

Forester 04 Top radiator hose dilemma !


You really won't lose that much coolant in just changing the upper hose.
But, crawl underneath the front of the car, and somewhere along the bottom left or right hand corner of the radiator, you'll find a valve of some type. Either rotate/turn the valve, or pull and turn, to open. Be sure to have a clean bucket ready and under the drain while doing this, to catch the drained fluid.

Then remove the radiator cap to allow air in the top of the radiator and speed the flow. Drain only to a point in the radiator that is below the lowest point of the top radiator hose, probably the engine end. Close the drain.
Remove/replace the radiator hose. Pour coolant from bucket back into the radiator where the cap was removed. If it does not all go, then save.
Start engine and allow to warm up. As soon as you see the level drop (meaning the thermostat has opened) add more coolant, and continue doing so until no more coolant can be added. Replace the cap. Monitor the coolant reservoir and add coolant as needed to the appropriate fill line.
Do not store excess coolant where pets/animals could consume as it lethal such creatures.

Is there a water drain that gets plugged


There is only 1 water drain, officially, and that is the petcock valve on the bottom of the radiator (of course, removing the bottom hose can also let coolant out). Your question seems vague, but if you are concerned with your coolant getting stuck somewhere and not circulating properly, then your thermostat is your answer. You should not, under any conditions, be losing coolant. If you are, then it's either leaking onto the ground or being burned through the engine. Never, Never work on your cooling system unless the car engine is positively cold or else you could be burned by the coolant! What exactly is happening to cause you to ask if there is a water drain that gets plugged?

Bmw trouble code P1624 what does it mean?


Code P1624:M52 coolant temperature below thermostat regulating temperature. Check the temperature of the coolant and also with a scan tool, check the actual reading given by the coolant temperature switch. It could be the thermostat or a coolant sensor.Look also for any broken/corroded wires to the sensors as well.

2000 BWM 528i coolant leak


The 2000 BMW uses a non silica based coolant. OK to use a silica free coolant. Dex-cool is the same. Just make sure it is SILICA free.
Silica based freon supposedly decreases the life span of the coolant system.
