Sounds like the shift cable is bad. To check unhook it from trans. With someone in the car. Start the car have them hold down the brake and see if you can shift the gears from under the hood. If you can the cable is bad, if not the problem is in the trans.

Number one cause of this is bad transmission fluid.
So far, 7 times out of 8, fluid change has fixed a problem exactly like yours.

The A604 transmission uses ATF+3 or ATF+4 ONLY...do NOT trust 'some other ATF + additives' or anything like it, you will end up regretting it.

ATF+3 and ATF+4 are trademarks, so cannot be used without meeting the spec. I've had good luck (and best prices) with Wal-Marts Supertech brand (cheapest ATF+4 I've found)

You'll need 5.5 quarts to do a standard fluid change (doesn't empty out the torque converter). System capacity is 9.5 quarts, but you'll need quite a bit more than that to do a full flush. When you're done, and have refilled the tranny, start the engine, wait 10 or 20 seconds, keep your foot on the brake, put the van in drive for 10 or 20 seconds, back in park, then check the fluid again.

Generally, doing a change, driving another couple hundred miles, and changing it again works very well.

You'll have to drop the entire transmission pan to change the filter, you'll want to do that to check for excessive metal shavings and such anyway. Don't forget to remove the old O-ring from the filter connection, and don't forget to put the new one on. There's no drain plug on the tranny pan, so have a big catchpan handy, and expect to have to do some careful prying to get the old gasket to break loose. (the bolts are 10MM by the way)

The second time you change the fluid, it's simpler to use some aquarium tubing down the Trans fluid fill tube as a siphon. Takes pretty much overnight to empty the pan this way, but easier and safer than dropping the pan, and you actually get a little more old fluid out.

Do the same fill, start, brake/drive, recheck as above.

Where is the fuel pump fuse on a 94 plymouth sundance

I would not think a fuse would be the problem. A fuse either blows or it is good. The relay might be at fault, but I would think it is the pump going bad.

On this i think you will find you have a pluged cadilac converter. Try taking the bolts out of the pipe going to the convert and move it out of the way so not to restrict the exhaust. You may need to wire it up to the bottom of the car so it wont drag. It is going to be loud but take it for a run if it accelerates like it should you will need to replac the converter. If it doesnt then check for a code on the TPS switch. { Throttle Posions Sencor} Good luck and hope this helps.

My 91 sundance doesnt want to shift over to the third gear. There is trasmission fluid .dont know if this is somthing serious.it has a automatic trans. with a 2.2. liter engine

Seen this twice. Chrysler has a fail safe to lock the transmission in 2nd gear when a problem is detected. Could be a bad filter or a solenoid. Unless you know much about transmissions it is easier to go to a shop and have them do a computer hook-up to isolate the problem.

Hi,

A good place to start would be to check the fluid(if it's an automatic transmission).

I have a 1994 Plymouth Sundance with a 5 speed. Sometimes the car will not shift out of gear, but the gear shift will go up and down (but only in line...example, if I'm in 2nd, it won't shift out of 2nd,...

your cable that runs from the shifter to the trans., is stretched, or broken, or a bolt has come loose, some are dual cables with plastic caps that hold them on to the shifter. these caps break and cause alot of slop

My 87 plymonth sundance will start but will not shift into gear. Once shifted into gear it will not reverse or drive forward. Also when I push on the gas the pedal goes all the way to the floor.

There is a transmissions connecter on the front of the trans. there is a 8mm bolt down the center. remove that then try and put into gear. or there is a trans computer you can dissconnect. i think the pack is eaier to remove.

these have common problems. this is just an easy try to see what the problem is.

Also chek the basics like trans fluid first. make sure to use ATF+4 fluid only on dodge vehicles.

let me know,
Michael

Turn key, on, off, on, off, on & leave it on (not start) & count check engine flashes. 2 digit codes, for example: flash, flash, flash, pause, flash, flash., is code 32
