Question about 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix

1 Answer

My 2001 Grand Prix will intermittently have no power. I will get in it go somewhere and there is no power to anything. My fiance tried moving the gear shift around and all was fine. Everything worked. Another time it happened the only sound he heard was a humming in the CD player. He ejected the CD and the car had all the power back. Another time, the car lost all power, he played around with the ignition. All the power came back. We just can't seem to narrow down where there is a short, or whatever the problem is. It's horrible when you can't rely on your car. I never know when I get into it if it will work. Please help. Thanks.

I had a similar incident in my '92 Camaro. Turned out to be a ground lead off the battery to the body. Start there.

loosen the 2 bolts about at the rear of the exhaust going to the catalytic converter and then try to start the car (highly recommended you wear ear plugs) if it fires up right away your caty is clogged. believe me i just went thru what you are going thru. i replaced everything but the motor. another thing to try is pull the fuse for the injectors. if the car fires up and dies or if its acting like its gettin too much fuel replace the fuel regulator on the fuel rail and then ream out the catalytic converter

I have a 2001 pontiac grand prix gt and it makes a squealing noise, and when i accelerate it gets louder and more whiny. I have replaced the belt and it still makes the noise. If the car is started and not...

It sounds like a belt thats slipping. You have a sticking puley somewhere, take off the belt and rotate all of the pulleys. Usually its an AC compressor pulley so pay special attention to it. The whining noise that it makes while turning, is it the same as the squealing noise? If so it could be a problem with the pump, check the fluid level and see if its an odd color or has an odd odor (like burnt or black). Hope this helps!

I have a 2001 Pontiac grand prix. My rear drivers side window wont roll up or down, When i took door panel off, i noticed a blue and red wire that has a gray plug, That seems to me should go somewhere,...

it should go to the window motor or the power locks or the power window button.
check window motor with a test light for 12 volts at the plug.
check regulator/pulley system for a broke cable.

Code P0742 on 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix with 3.1L engine. I experience intermittent hard shifting while driving. THe check engine light comes on if I drive it too long.

Not an intrigue, sorry. run over anything lately? A pinched cooler line could cause this. Or maybe just an old, gummy transmission.
