Can an inline fuel pump be used to replace in tsnk fuel pump on a 1998 Murcury Sable?

In tank fuel pumps do most of the work. Some cars have an in-tank pump which lifts the fuel out of the tank and pushes it into the fuel line - where an inline pump then pushes the fuel up to the engine.

It's usually the in-tank pump that fails because it does most of the

Broadly speaking, there's 2 types of fuel pumps .. lifters and pushers.

I would hazard a guess that if a 'pusher' pump was strong enough you could use it instead of an in-tank pump.

Got a 99 chevy silverado 4.8 are lean bank 1 and 2 put fuel pressure guage on and reading 20 ilbs pressure jumps to 41 ilbs . then drops back to 20 ilbs could it be the fuel pump?

My info says fuel pressure 55--62 psi. Yes, probably the fuel pump. Usually low pressure is a problem on the supply side. You can be thorough, check proper voltage and ground at fuel pump connector. Check inline fuel filter. I've checked inline fuel filters before where the fluid that ran out looked like dirty water. Don't take connections loose from inline fuel filter unless your sure, no pressure on the system.
You could block the return line, where applicable, momentarily, to see if pressure will go high. If not, it should be the pump.

Truck is trying to run, seems to be starving for fuel

If there are no leaks anywhere along the fuel lines, your fuel pump inside the tank is trying to tell you that it needs to be replaced.

Location of fuel pump on 1988 Ford F350 460 engine

there could be 2. one is in the tank, this one is there for sure. the other is in the frame rail ahead of the switching valve,if you have 2 tanks.Otherwise look for a cylinder with fuel lines and 2 wires.the fittings on inline fuel pump might take a special tool, they will look like a bell.that tool can be bought at parts store, should be under $15.

My smart fortwo cdi engine stopped. There is no fuel pressure if I disconnect the fuel line from the filter. Does it have an el. fuel pump, because I can't hear any noise? Thanks!

hi, i;ve never worked on one of these, but, it must have an electrical fuel pump. the easiest way to check this is to jack the car up and look up under the rear and near the fuel tank. these pumps are INLINE meaning FUEL PIPE IN THE CENTRE (IN) arrowed toward the engine and FUEL PIPE IN THE CENTRE (OUT). these have 2 conectins IGNITION FEED and GROUND. if you switch on ignition and NO FUEL. then NO IGNITION FEED / RELAY / BAD CONNECTION / NO EARTH / COMPLETE DISCONECTION / FUEL PUMP BLOCKED / FUEL PUMP (INTERNALALLY OPEN CIRCUIT pump needs replacing). i hope this has helped. gerry

Fuel pump need replacing 1991 Buick century, where can i find it?

I'm sorry to hear that. The fuel pump is in the fuel tank. Make certain that all the rest of the fuel system working before you have to drop the tank. 1.Fuel pump relay or any fuses.2.Replace fuel filter,(inline between tank ane pressure regulator). 3.Trace power and ground wires from tank back to relay looking for breaks or pinches. 4.Look for a pump reset switch. If all that is good, then replace the pump. Good luck.

90' Ford F150 Lariat 4.9 inline 6 cyl w/ EFI and 2 fuel tanks. I'm stumped! Where is the fuel pump fuse?! There has to be one , right? I know there's a relay (under hood), but there is no designation for...

The fuse for the fuel pump is pretty much the toggle switch between tanks, if that goes out, you will not have either tank.. IF you had an accident, there is a kill switch somewhere behind the dash on that truck that disables the fuel pump and must be reset.

Fuel pump getting hot

Not a good sign at all make sure that the pump has a good ground but i will exchange the pump from where i got it, the fuel that runs into the pump should be cooling the motor but in your case the pump is heating the fuel not a very good sign please replace the pump.
