Question about Toyota MR2

Shaft of original antenna was damage will not go down all the way, purchased replacement shaft assembly but toyota's repair manual does not have replacement instruction. Replacement shaft has racheting plastric rod and out side surface of rod has locking clip. Question does the antenna just pull out or do I need to remove trunk liner to get at the complete antenna ***'y, if latter is the case do I need a release tool to remove the damaged shaft from power antenna ***'y?

    The expert is working on the solution for the wrong end of the car.
    Problem: instruction needed to replace the power radio antenna staff on a 1991 Toyota MR2 with T top body. Radio antenna staff has been bent but the mechanical and electrical function are good, staff rises OK and lowers OK but will not go all the way down. I purchased a replacement staff assembly but my Toyota repair manual does not have instruction on how to remove or install the old and the new parts. The replacement assembly has the flex rod for operating the antenna and the outside shaft of this assembly has a clip lock.
    Question does the antenna staff assembly just pull out of the antenna motor or do I need to remove the trunk liner and spoiler to get to the entire assembly and if this is the case do I need a special tool to release the locking portion of the antenna staff assembly???

    Removing the Antenna
  1. Activate the antenna switch to the up position.
  2. Using the wrench or needle-nose pliers, loosen and remove the original retaining nut on the base of the antenna mast.
  3. Gain access to the underside of the area where the antenna is located.
  4. Remove the bracket or brace that is below the hole and holding the antenna in place.
  5. Remove the mast.
  6. Find the motor that controls the antenna mast. Generally, power antennas will have a constant 12-volt lead and a ground lead. The ground lead will be grounded to the panel next to the motor.
  7. Remove the ground lead from the panel.
  8. Pull out the antenna coaxial cable.
  9. Unplug the coaxial from the extension coaxial cable.
  10. Remove the original antenna coaxial cable. Note the route the cable follows.
  11. Installing the New Power Antenna
  12. Inspect the fender area where the antenna mast will be mounted for rust.
  13. Clean the area before installing the new antenna.
  14. Plug the new antenna coaxial cable to the extension coaxial cable. (On some General Motors and Ford cars you may need an adapter to mate the 2 cables together. Car audio retail stores sell such an adapter.)
  15. Plug the new antenna's coaxial cable into the radio's chassis antenna jack if there is no extension coaxial cable. Tie or tape the string you put on the extension cable to the new antenna coaxial cable. This assures that the 2 cables stay together as you route them to the antenna mount in the fender.
  16. Connect the power lead of the antenna to the power antenna lead on the radio.
  17. Connect the 12-volt constant lead to the antenna to a 12-volt source or to the ignition switch.
  18. Direct the new antenna cable via the same route followed by the original antenna cable on up to the hole in the fender in which the mast will be mounted.
  19. Ground the ground lead from the motor to a clean metal surface on the metal panel near the mount.
  20. Insert the mast into the hole. Face the serrated side of the plastic cable on the bottom of the mast toward the motor side. The plastic cable can be inserted freely to about 12 inches and will stop.
  21. Turn on antenna switch to down position until the plastic cable goes down and catches into the gear mechanism of the drum housing. If the plastic cable does not gear into the mechanism, twist the cable slightly until the cable contacts into the gear mechanism while the motor is in operation.
  22. Stop the motor after the cable goes into the housing 12 to 25 inches.
  23. Secure the bracket or strap to the bottom of the antenna mast and to the metal fender.
  24. Replace the retainer nut to the base of the antenna mast and secure tightly.
  25. Replace the panel that covers the antenna mount area.

Jack up the car, put on stands. remove the front wheels, remove the nuts on the tie rod ends,and the lower ball joints, give the joints{ on the thick part of the metal } a good hit with a heavy hammer. this should let the joints come free.take the tie rod end loose first, then using a long pry bar pry the lower a frame down to release the lower ball joint.take the half-shaft nut loose . tap the shaft from the outside to free it from the hub.then push it through, when the shaft is free from the hub, pull the shaft to see if they are tight , they shouldn't be give them a sharp tug or yank to free them. but only do 1 at a time. then reverse this procedure to put back together,you do not have to have an alignment if you choose not to have one. ------------------------- to get the help with directions and proper pictures click the link directly http://www.insaneintention.com/PaseoManuals/Axleshafts.pdf ------------- the instructions given in the link are for Toyota Paseo but it will match the system of your car too. ------------ thanks.keep updated.please do rate the solution.

Axle Shaft Removal

Your best bet is to purchase a vehicle specific repair manual. It should contain all the req'd. info, (as well as diagrams and or pictures) to complete this task.

The antenna was snapped off of my 2008 Honda CR-V, snapping the bolt that is used to screw the antenna to the base. How do you fix this?


If the remainder of the bolt protrudes above the surrounding metal(you'll need about 1mm), you can cut a groove with a hacksaw into the bolt and screw it out with a screwdriver. If this is not possible you can use an "Easy-out" and here is where you start purchasing items.
This entails drilling into the bolt shaft using a drill bit about half the diameter of the bolt shaft itself. The correct size "Easy-out" tool is then screwed into the newly made hole(it screws in counter clockwise) and as the tool grips the inside of the bolt shaft it will unscrew the bolt shaft.
A third alternative would be to drill out the bolt completely and use what is called a heli-coil to repair the hole. I doubt the last will be viable as there is not much metal to work with.
As a last resort you can purchase an aftermarket antenna and install it in a differant place on the car's bodywork.

Replace velocity axle assembly passanger side


In order for the cv shaft to come out the rotor assembly has to be disconnected from the center shaft ie remove center wheel nut and all other components attached to the rotor assembly except the ball joint and seperate it from the shaft.
shaft might be held in place with circlip[s or will just slide out with a hard pull.

Hi, well first you need to see if the yokes that the u joints are damaged or if it was just the u joint that broke. if the u joint broke you can just replace the u joint by using a u joint press found at any parts store, or you can take it to a repair shop to have changed out.

How do you change a wheel seal on a mercury mountaneer 1998 rear end


Axle Vent
NOTE: If the vent cannot be cleared, it must be installed new.
A plugged vent will cause excessive seal lip wear due to internal pressure buildup. If a leak occurs, check the vent. Make sure the vent hose is not kinked. Remove the hose from the vent nipple and clear the hose of any foreign material. While the hose is removed, pass a length of mechanics wire or a small diameter Allen wrench in and out of the vent to clean it. Connect the hose when done. The vent is located on the drivers side top of axle housing.
If you plan on doing most repairs yourself I would suggest buying a Haynes or Chilton manual for your particular vehicle. Or there are some data disks on e.bay($12-$15) For a cost of under $25, you can almost do any repair yourself with these manuals.Also there are online manuals like the site called ALLDATA where guides can be viewed for a fee. All these solutions will save you time and money, and give peace of mind over correct repairs. I can post you some procedures here also.

                                                            Installing wheel hub onto drive shaft and strut.


                                                            The strut would not extend. Strut are made to go inside of the coil spring, and held in the compressed position.
                                                            If the strut is sticking past the coil spring something has gone wrong. You'll need to compress spring and fix it.

                                                            Power antenna motor will not shut off


                                                            I assume that the power antenna unit is an original equipment unit, if so.
                                                            1. Does it run for about a minute then stop? If this is the case, your antenna shaft needs to be replaced. This is a very simple procedure that your local radio install shop can do for you in about 20 minutes.
                                                            2. If the motor never shuts off as long as the key is on, you probably have a defective relay on the antenna motor. At this point you need to replace the entire unit. A job that can be a bit pricey because of the price of the unit itself. A cheeper fix is to replace the power antenna with a manually telescopic unit, (no motor), or a fixed unit, (doesn't go down). If you opt for the latter, remember to unscrew or lower the antenna in automatic car washes!
