Car in long term storage, hasn't been run in years

Looking to restart grandma's car thats been sitting for the last 10 years. It hasn't even been started since 2006. What do I need to do so as to not blow gaskets etc... can it be rehabilitated?

Have a can of ether starting fluid available since old gasoline may not be that willing.
If it was mine, I would change (and flush) coolant and engine oil and allow enough time for the oil (which may be thickened) to drain. Rings may be stuck after being compressed for longer times so don't be surprised if you get some blue smoke from the tailpipe. If the rings are not stuck in carbon deposits, they should free up again with some running time.
Also - be afraid(!) of the tires; if they have been standing for 10 years, they will likely be dangerous and will at least have some definite flat spots.
Good luck-

You will, more than likely have some leaks at seals and gaskets. I recommend starting the car, but just driving it a couple of miles initially. This will moisten the seals and gaskets and give them a chance to expand. No guarantee this will work, but its your best initial bet.

The orange check engine light came on the other day..it's a 2002 Chevy Cavalier and it was sitting for about 1 year and a half. I just had it serviced and then this happened. What does it mean?

Have the codes read. Sitting so long could be corrosion at plugs. Which one to check is the problem. Codes will lead you to the right area.

Why do i have a faulty catalytic sonverter on my 2004 mitisubishi galant

Most likely because the engine hasn't run correctly
in years & ruined it

They should last at least 12 to 14 years & still pass inspection.

Own a 2005 BMW M3, car battery draining -battery less than year.

From what you're saying here, I believe that you simply have a bad battery. Most batteries only last 5 years, much less if they're left to sit in storage periodically. You really should charge the battery overnight and do a load test on it the next day. The person(s) you spoke to at BMW were probably sales staff and not actual technicians. Costco has very good batteries at reasonable prices.

Restarting a car after 5 years

Drain oil and refill this allows for oil to flow around the dry areas. It should be fine. I had a bronco sit for 6 years and it started right up.

Stalls out about every 10 miles or so,let sit bout 5min,restarts

have you changed the plugs and leads, if you don't know the last time it was started there is a few things you need to take into account, engine oil and spark plugs fuel filter even the fuel in the tank empty and replace, coil and the points ( if upgraded there is no coil and points as been converted) you would also need to clean out the carburetor as old fuel drying can block or limit fuel entering the engine. change air filter. even standing an engine for a year or 2 these parts can degrade as they have not been used. also change the water and flush the system and refill with coolant/antifreeze.

Motor stops running after starting

You might also find that the fuel filter is in need of a cleaning. Sitting that long can lead to a bit of rust dust in the tank, specially if you have given it a push.
