If the car has power steering you need to disconect the hydraulic lines on the rack that lead to the power steering pump. You will need to disconnect each tie rod from the steering knuckle, this could take a tool called a pickel fork, be careful not to ruin the rubber boots. Next center the steering wheel and disconnect the steering shaft from the rack. The last thing should be the mounting bolts that mount the rack to the sub-frame. The rack should drop down and out.

1991 toyota camry stiff steering no leaks, safe to drive?

No, it is not unfortunately. This may be an indication of impending total failure, and you can't really handle the car well in traffic.

If the reservoir fluid level is OK, then the next thing to check is that the drive belt is tight enough to drive the steering pump.

If that appears OK then either you have a fault inside the pump or steering rack valve, or there is something binding in the steering knuckle ball joints, and that will need a specialist.

My toyota camry steering went very stiff

Unless the rack and pinion gears are slipping (jumping a cog), then try putting oil on the universal joint in the steering column just above the rack & pinion. Two mechanics wanted to change the rack & pinion for $900 or the "Yoke" (whatever that is) but a generous squirt of oil on the U jont fixed the problem for my 2002 Camry!

96 camry; steering clunks during turn

I would think this would be your rack and pinion. You can try having your power steering system flushed and have new synthetic fluid put in it, this may help, but it may not either!

You me need a lift for this job, diy is kind of difficult on this car, you have to support the engine on bay and remove the supports underneath the car in order to acces the rack and pinion. go to a certified auto technician for this if not capable of doing it.

No and No,
Just find a local shop and you can get it done for around $350 for the seal and $200 for the rack and pinion.
