No, it is not unfortunately. This may be an indication of impending total failure, and you can't really handle the car well in traffic.

If the reservoir fluid level is OK, then the next thing to check is that the drive belt is tight enough to drive the steering pump.

If that appears OK then either you have a fault inside the pump or steering rack valve, or there is something binding in the steering knuckle ball joints, and that will need a specialist.

Unless the rack and pinion gears are slipping (jumping a cog), then try putting oil on the universal joint in the steering column just above the rack & pinion. Two mechanics wanted to change the rack & pinion for $900 or the "Yoke" (whatever that is) but a generous squirt of oil on the U jont fixed the problem for my 2002 Camry!

I would think this would be your rack and pinion. You can try having your power steering system flushed and have new synthetic fluid put in it, this may help, but it may not either!

You me need a lift for this job, diy is kind of difficult on this car, you have to support the engine on bay and remove the supports underneath the car in order to acces the rack and pinion. go to a certified auto technician for this if not capable of doing it.
