Question about Chevrolet K3500

6.2l engine.the glow plugs seem to bo working.sometimes it will start for a few seconds then stalls.when you try to start again it whirls over a long time before it will start.as it nears starting it starts to smoke.would that be a fuel problem?

2 weak compression (a cold engine need max here)

Having cold start problems 2006 h.d. f350 ,truck is parked in heated garage all night,starts normal in the a.m.,sits outside all day at work,soon as temp falls below 30 F it starts then stalls immediately...


glow pug indicator and glow plug themself are 2 seperate system
test for power at the glow plug harness conector 1 each side over valve cover
test light clamp on batery neg test each wire going to relay for power on both side
then quick check on glow plug end test light clamp on positive test all wires
going to glow pug on each side f this does ligtht up the test light system should be o.k.
for the FICM i have used a hair blower on hi to warm the surface of if to start up a few of
these motors to get them back to the yard for replacment afterward
run a ffeet of these from 250 to 550 lots of problem and work 26 units

I have a 2002 F350 that has trouble starting as the temperature drops. Is this a glow plug problem or something else?


Diesels are more difficult to start in cold climates. Be sure your battery is in top condition - the faster the engine can turn over the better. It may be your glow plugs hard to know without being there to see. Sometimes - as with my excavator - turning over the engine for a few seconds then allowing it to rest for a few will bring the cylinder temp up slightly from initial friction which may just be enogh to bring it into a better cylinder temp starting range. PS never use ether if you also use glow plugs.

i think glow plug replacement needed. ever used starting fluid in cold to start?try this, next time no start, cycle your key and let the light come on, wait till it goes off, turn key again until light goes off, if you have to do this more than 3 times, and it runs fine, replace the glow plugs only then. thank you for choosing fixya.com!

I have a 1994 2.8ltr Diesel (4M40 Mtr), Delica, that conks out


try changing all the heater plugs there are warn out by now,,if it realy dont like starting up on cold days do what i do,,, give it twice the heat up time,,,,,
turn on the kye wate till the heater light go's out then quikly switch it off and turn it back on for a re-heat before trying to start it up,,,also try changing the glow plug heater relay,, it should hold the glow plug heaters on for about 30 seconds after the light has gone off even if the engen has started and is running
but i bet its not doing this? giving twice the heat takes less out the battery than cranking it over and your not wearing out the starter as well?
doing this to my old girl gets her going every time!!!!!

probably the glow plug relay or module,usually towards the rear of the engine,black box that ticks when you turn the key on for about 12 seconds

1991 Ford F150 starts for an instant then stalls


my dad used to say you need two things to start a motor; gas and fire. Check these and make sure they are both good. You have to go through the steps from there. Could be a fuel filter. could be bad plugs. etc. etc... Hope it helps.

To save you all the hassle check your spark plugs & distributor first if you are getting a spark. To do that first take out the number one spark plug wire it will be the one closest to the distributor. Second take out the spark plug, then put the spark plug in the spark plug wire. Turn on the engine u should see a spark at the spark plug if your distributor is ok and spark plug. If not replace your distributor.

Diesel engine keeps stalling


Hi!
Looking at the brief description of your problem it may be your heater plug timer? when you start the vehicle from cold the glow plugs have to heat up. These are little pencil type plugs that are mounted in the cylinder head they are timed and glow rather like the bar of an electric fire so the hot spots in each cylinder warm and give precise combustion. If the timer/relay gives only a short burst of power your car will start as normal but if the cylinders are still cold/cool when it shuts off the Vapourised Diesel doesn't ignite correctly so rev's drop and if you can't raise them will stall. When you turn off the ignition and back on again the timer/relay kicks in glow plugs glow and bingo your'e off again. I presume after the first stall everything is back to normal? if not how far up the road is it before engine dies? also how long after starting does it stall?
I hope you don't mind the Epic, Oh! if your 306 continues try starting the car and waiting a while listen for a click like a switch or if the interior light is on when it brightens after a few seconds turn off the ignition then back on and start then see how far you go!
