Question about 2003 Ford Escape

1 Answer

Ok, so my 2003 ford escape will not move in any gear. i have had no trouble out of it until now. it has 99000 miles on it. i got out of it and then back in 10 minutes later without cutting it off and it would do anything. we were jumping another car off and would like to know it this could have done something to it. i have replaced the TSS sensor and the OSS sensor with no avail. no fuses are bad and ATF looks good. what could this be? my check engine light is not on and never has been so it gives no codes of what it could be?? HELP we are now clueless as to what it could be?

ok, if you can move the lever inside and out and feel the lever move outside then could this still be a problem? could you move it from the outside and it still be the linkage? i was told that it could be the torque converter in the trannie, is this also possible? Thanks!!

Hi,
I don't know if the trannie a standard or automatic but my first suspicion would be the linkage to the trannie shift lever. Possibly it has become disconnected or broken... just a thought.
Hope this helps... Good luck!

What is the schedule replacement mileage for a 2003 Ford Escape Timing Chain

If your car has a chain there is not a scheduled replacement. A timing chain should last as long as the engine. No need to replace the chain. Now things can happen such as a guide wearing out or a drive / driven gear wears out, then a chain should be replaced. You do not need to replace a chain under normal usage. *** Now the 2000 - 2004 Escape with a 2.0L (4 cylinder) does have a BELT and yes, belts should be changed (Ford recommends) every 60,000 miles or 7 years which ever comes first.

How much oil usage is normal?

1 quart every 2000 miles. Not all cars are created equal. The same model may burn alot less or even more.

2003 ford escape. 75,000 miles on it. Sputters

What engine do you have?
I have a 2002 Escape with 3.0 V6. It sounds like the ignition is getting damp and the engine is misfiring. If the CEL is flashing, you really shouldn't be driving it. Check the owners manual, but you could damage the engine.
Anyway, go to an Autozone or other parts store. Many will scan your engine for the DTC code for free. This code will give you a clue.
My code was for a for a cylinder misfire. I was close to 100,000 miles, so I replaced the plugs first, then the one coil. It was the coil.

Possibly have a bad speed sensor or something else. You will need to have it hooked to a computer to find out what is going on with it.
