Question about 1998 Nissan Altima
Why is the radiator fan running even after the engine is turned off? this has started recently after i changed the water pump, thermostat and fuel filter. it happens even when the a/c is not engaged but temperature regulator on the dash is slid all the way to hot.
i asked this question earlier but did not get a satisfactory answer - the guy just said 'relay'.
i want to know if this is normal? if so, why was it not happening before i changed the thermostat? if not, what do i need to replace?
You need to diagnose the problem. The fan is doing what it is being told to do by the computer. You stated the temp gage on the dash is in the HOT position. Either the engine is very hot and the fan needs to run to remove heat even after it is shut off or the gage, coolant sensor or temp sender is defective. Try running it temporarly without a thermostat and see what happens, you may have bought a defective thermostat.
