DTC P0131 or P0151
Circuit Description
Heated oxygen sensors (HO2S) are used for fuel control and post catalyst monitoring. Each HO2S compares the oxygen content of the surrounding air with the oxygen content in the exhaust stream. The HO2S must reach operating temperature to provide an accurate voltage signal. Heating elements inside the HO2S minimize the time required for the sensors to reach operating temperature. The powertrain control module (PCM) supplies the HO2S with a reference, or bias, voltage of about 450 mV. When the engine is first started, the PCM operates in Open Loop, ignoring the HO2S voltage signal. Once the HO2S reaches operating temperature and Closed Loop is achieved, the HO2S generates a voltage within a range of 0-1,000 mV that fluctuates above and below bias voltage. High HO2S voltage indicates a rich exhaust stream. Low HO2S voltage indicates a lean exhaust stream. If the PCM detects an HO2S voltage that stays below a specified value, DTC P0131 sets for HO2S bank 1 sensor 1, or DTC P0151 sets for HO2S bank 2 sensor 1.

DOES THE VEHICLE SHOW ANY DRIVIBILITY PROBLEMS IF NOT... THEN GET 2 BOTTLES OF FUEL INJECTOR CLEANER AND ADD TO FULL TANK OF GAS.. O2 SENSOR MEASURES THE EXHAUST TO DETERMINE IF ENGINE IS RUNNING EFFICIANTLY...BAD GAS OR MOISTURE CAN SET THIS CODE...IT IS NOT A BIG CONCEARN...AFTER RUNNING THAT FULL TANK OF GAS OUT.HAVE SOME ONE CLEAR ALL CODES AND THEN SEE IF IT RETURNS

Testimonial: "Thanks! Actually I just did that before the light came on. Could it have triggered it somehow or should I run another bottle through?"

  • kevin butler Oct 11, 2009

    not sure if you got it corrected or not.. but to answer your question yes you could have triggered it to turn on light......after a couple of tanks of just regular or mid grade gas see if it still comes on.. let me know

P0172 and P0175 after replacement of cats and rebuilt injectors

Possible solutions include: Inspect all vacuum and PCV hoses, replace if necessary Clean the MAF sensor. Consult your service manual for it's location if you need help. I find it's best to take it off and spray it with electronics cleaner or brake cleaner. Make sure you are careful not to damage the MAF sensor, and make sure it's dry before reinstalling Inspect fuel lines for cracks, leaks, or pinches Check the fuel pressure at the fuel rail Check the fuel injectors, they may be dirty. Use fuel injector cleaner or get them professionally cleaned/replaced. Check for an exhaust leak before the first oxygen sensor (this is unlikely to cause the problem, but it is possible)

What causes01 audi allroad 2.7 liter fault code p0421

this can either be a bad cat or o2 sensor its the after cat downstream driver side you can either replace the o2 sensor or buy a spacer from 034 Motorsports to get rid of this problem or get a tune alls it does is checking if the cat is there for emissions will not effect gas mileage. Owner of Audi A6 2.7T 2001.B2 S1 is drivers side pre cat

B1 = Passenger side
B2 = Drivers side
S1 = Pre cat
S2 = Post Cat Example s1:b1

Troubleshooting code b1 s1 and b2 s1

b1s1 and b2s1 is the location of your two upstream o2 sensors not a trouble code(dtc). although these are common to go bad both sensors on both engine banks(sides) is somewhat odd. you may have an underlying problem. you may wish to have your technician connect a scanner and check your long and short term fuel trim values to rule out any other problems. if this was helpful please leave positive rating.

I have 8000 miles on my Tucson check engine light came on at start up this morning...gas cap is tight...no problems?????

there are over 200 reasons for the check engine light to come on, the gas tank cap is just one of them, this light and the problem that turned it on are most likely covered under the federal emission warranty, contact the dealer. see trouble code list below for some of the probelems that cause a check enghine light.
