99 Grand Cherokee fogs windows on warm defrost, but not on cold

Our 99 Grand Cherokee heater seems to work fine, but we get the antifreeze smell from the vents and occasionally some 'smoke'. Problem is when we put on the defroster to clear the windshield with warm air, condensation and fogging on the inside of the window. If i reduce the temp and blow cold air or a/c on window, it clears, but makes it chilly to ride in the jeep. One shop had suggested a heater core replacement is needed, as they noticed a bit of smoke coming from the core area, but we are getting heat... could this really be?

Yes you do need a heater core, if not replaced it will only get worse.

Yes, the heater core is leaking.
Test:
When you garage your vehicle after you have driven it with the heater ON, park it and place a large shallow pan under the firewall on the passenger side (or a weighted-down newspaper) to collect any water that drips out of the A/C condensate drain tube.
The pan (newspaper) will have coolant on it.

The heater core is leaking into the A/C - heater cavity and draining out.

Replace heater core.

Neither my heat or a/c works and when I try to defrost my windows they just fog up is the accumulator / drier need replaced?

does the air temp change when you try to blow ac and or heat?? if it does change from cold to hot at your discretion and it is still fogging up you may have a leaking heater core and in which cases the "fog" you see on the windshield is actually antifreeze blowing onto the glass from the leaking heater core.

The fan on the defroster works but it doesn't keep the moister off the windows.

If the air is blowing on the screen and it will not clear or gets worse the heater core is probrebly leaking coolant. This will actually fog the screen instead of clearing it. Check for coolant leak or a sweet smell of antifreeze around the heater box. If it is leaking the core will need to be repaired or replaced .

2001 jeep cherokee- had the heater core replaced in Feb. 2008, when you turn on heater barely any air, when you use defrost a snell and the windows fog up. When you turn off car sounds like ******* comes...

Sounds to me like the heater core is leaking again. If you're smelling antifreeze and the window fogs up then you're getting coolant into the heating system. Most likely cause is leaking hose to heater core or the heater core it's self.

Front window defroster note working

Was there a smell along with it fogging up the window like antifreeze? If it did the heater core is leaking and needs to be replaced. It will be kind of a sweet smell.

Heater works but defrost fills inside with fog.

your heater core has probably sprung a leak.does the fog smell kinda sweet?....check the floor in the front where the floor mats are for moisture or even puddles of antifreeze.(the replacement of a heater core can be very expensive as the entire dash usually needs to be removed to access the heater core)also look under the engine near the firewall for antifreeze drips.

When i run the heat or air cond. i smell water and windshield fogs up in the middle.

Sounds like your heater core is bad. Have someone check out the heating system and possibly replace heater core.. that should take care of the fog problem also by enabling you to use the defrost... Good Luck!
