How do you remove a ball joint on a 1987 ford f150 pickup

When doing ball joints on a truck that old, I suggest you do them all at the same time. You'll need a special tool called a ball joint fork. You remove the cotter pin on the nut that holds the ball. Then you position the fork tool in between the ball joint and the arm it is attached to and hit it with a hammer until the ball joint separates from the arm. Now unscrew the joint from the adjusting tube and replace the joint. Be careful when screwing the new joint into the adjusting tube. count the number of threads that were inside the tube on the old joint and match that number when installing the new joint. Now push the joint back into the control arm and tighten the nut. Put in a new cotter pin to keep the nut from turning. After you've done all the joints , drive the truck for about 50 miles or so then have a front end alignment so your tires won't wear unevenly or if the truck steers to the right or left when you let loose of the steering wheel while moving.

Creaking groan from front driver side tire

The creaking is coming from either the shock ,ball joint, or a-arm bushings. Have someone with you and one person pushing up and down, the other, safely feeling each component till the vibration can be felt. If it is in fact the ball-joint then as long as it is safe (not loose), then just add grease to it as needed and it should go away.

How to remove ball joints on 95 honda passport?

First loosen the lugs on the tire and then jack up and support with jack stands. Then remove the tire. Your lower ball joints are located directly behind the brake rotors. You will need a PICKLE FORK or ball joint remover. First remove the but that secures the ball joint and then place the fork between the rubber boot and the hub assembly and proceed to hit with a hammer until the joint breaks loose. Or use a Honda ball joint remover and follow the instructions included with them. Use a wooden mallet to tap new one in or use a Honda ball joint press. Put on the new nut. Then put on your tire and secure the lug nuts. Once you have removed the jack stands and jack tighten your lugs again to ensure safety. Please purchase a repair manual for full instructions.

2004 kia optima upper ball joint

You have two options. 1. You can replace the upper control arms which come with the ball joints. Replacing is simple. Remove the nut that holds the ball joint to the knuckle. Seperate the ball joint from the knuckle. Remove the two nuts that hold the control arm to the body. 2. Buy or rent a ball joint press. Remove the control arm as described above. Press out the old ball joint. Press in the new ball joint. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Thank you for using FixYa.com!

Removing lower ball joint on nissan navara

Remove front wheel (axle stand under chassis).
Remove hub nut (32mm).
Disconnect steering track rod ball joint (leave nut on last few threads for protection 22mm then strike steering arm part of knuckle to shock pin free).
Remove brake caliper & disc. Hang caliper out of way. No need to disconnect brake hose.
Disconnect ABS sensor at top arm area and unclip from mount.
Loosen top ball joint nut. Strike part of knuckle where pin goes through to shock it free. leave nut on loose for now.
Undo lower ball joint pinch bolt & remove. This will probably be seized & will require plenty of penetrating oil & patience to get out.
Next the lower ball joint pin needs to come out of the knuckle so the knuckle can be taken off. You will probably have to beat a chisel into the split portion to open it slightly as the ball joint pin will be rusted in.
Now you have plenty of space to remove the ball joint from the lower arm. Jack vehicle & move stand to under lower arm just in enough to allow ball joint to be removed.
Remove circlip & hammer ball joint out. Use a suitable drift so as not to accidently miss & burr lower arm.
Now the part the perfectionists are not going to approve of.
Heat the hole in the arm gently with a torch (no need to get it glowing red hot but pretty hot!). You will know when its right by trying the old joint (you will be able to get it in position by hand easily without hammering). Now put the new ball joint in place & quickly & drench with cold water before any heat from the arm damages the new ball joint. Fit new circlip.
Reassemble everything in reverse.
There are other ways to do this job but I found this the most practicle for DIYer without special tools.

Replace upper ball joint 2003 silverado 1500

The ball joints on both 2wd and 4wd upper are pressed in you need to remove snap ring and using a hammer pop out the old one out this is after you seperate the upper arm from the spindle. To install the new ball joint you should use a ball joint press that you can rent at most autoparts shops

Upper and lower ball joints

Jack the truck clear of the ground and let the wheel assembly hang. After you remove the tire place your jack under the lower control arm so it's firm. Remove the cotter pin, if you have one and loosen the big nut almost off. Wedge a "pickle fork" between the control arm and the spindle and give it a belt with a hammer until the ball joint pops. Raise the jack so you can undo the nut easily and separate the control arm and spindle.
The upper ball joint is riveted or bolted in. Grind the rivets or use a cold chisel and remove the ball joint. Clean up the area with some sandpaper, dirt , loose rust, etc.and put the new joint in. Put the spindle back on using the jack if necessary and put the nut back on and tighten.
The lower ball joint is pressed in. Tie the spindle out of the way and brace the lower control arm with some blocks or the jack if you have to. A few whacks with a hammer should pop the joint out. Clean the hole out lightly, just to remove loose rust and dirt. Put the ball joint, minus the grease fitting ,,in the hole and use the jack with a block of wood, to put it in place. You may have to fiddle with the spindle to make sure it is lined up. I've never had any trouble using a 1ton trolley jack and the weight of the truck to put the lower ball joint back in. Replace the nut and grease fitting.
The new ball joints will probably come with cotter pins, use them. Make sure the new joints are tight or they will wear the holes in the spindle. Don't forget to grease the new joints. Hope this helps.

Instructions needed--To help me replace my CV joint and my Ball Joints

the ball joints arent hard to do at all all you have to do is take the front tires off and you will see the ball joints as soon as you do this. then there is a nut on the bottom of the ball joint, remove it. then where the ball joint assembly connects to the tie rod mark where the end of the nut is with a sharpie. then loosen the compression nut that holds the ball joint then use a large wrench to loosen the ball joint assembly. then take off the old ball joint and replace it wit the new one lining up the backside of the compression nut with the mark you made with the marker then tighten. then put the bolt on the bottom of the ball joint assembly back in to the hole where you removed it then tighten snugly and put your tire back on and you are finished and then do the same on the other side
