Are you loosing brake fluid from the brake master cylinder or the clutch master cylinder ? Either one could leak onto the floor.

If water pump fails, how would i know? the car is an 80td, 130k . fans never cut-in, temp gauge never gets above 60. T car also consumes coolant very slowly. I understand there are many possible causes of...

Typically, when a water pump fails, it fails because it is leaking. You will lose the coolant and your car will over heat. We must not be on the same measurement ... where I am, coolant temp of 60 is very cold. Keep an eye on it ... add water/antifreeze as necessary. Watch for leaking on the ground or on the motor.

There may be a thermostat problem, but your symtoms indicate low coolant level. When coolant is too low, it will not circulate, so you get no heat in car, and the coolant remaining in engine block overheats because no cool fluid coming in.
You need to fill the system up properly then look for leaks.
With cold engine, open radiator cap. Fill with antifreeze directly in radiator. Start engine, top up rad if level drops. Put heat control on Hot. Fan on low, heat on high. Gently rev engine and top up rad as needed. IF as engine heats up, it starts kicking fuild violently out of radiator, then the thermostat is bad. if not, then recap radiator, top up overflow bottle and you're done. Look under car for any sign of leaks. Steady dripping indicates a leak, then address that.

I am not getting as much heat as I should be. The dealer indicates a small leak into # 2 cylinder thru the intake manifold, but the heat should still be there, also they say the thermopstat is OK. ...

The heater core is the highest point in the cooling loop, so as you lose anti freeze the heater core is the first thing that dosen't get any hot water, and if you lose enough fluid the thermo couple will not be under water so that even though your engine is hot the gauge won't read correctly. get that leak into the cyl. fixed, it's going to give you trouble until you do.
