Question about 2005 Dodge Neon

2 Answers

I have a 2005 Dodge Neon SXT 2.0L with 45,000 miles. I bought a brand new car 3 years ago so I could avoid problems with it. All of a sudden out of the blue the engine light went on. I restarted the car and it would not start. Eventually it did, and the light went off. Then a few days later it came back on and sputtered and would not drive over 30MPH. The more gas I gave it, the slower it went. I went to auto zone last night and they hooked it to there machine and it gave 2 codes for P0340-Camshaft Position Sensor/ Bank 1 circuit malfunction, and P0325-Knock Sensor 1-Circuit malfunction, bank 1 or sensor 1. My question is where the heck are these things? and Should this be a problem with a newer car? Is this something that a person can do themselves, or is it one of those hidden parts that you have to take the whole engine out to find?

It is something the average person should not try. These things all involve the computer controls for the emmissions and ignition of your car. The average person doesn't have the needed tools and test eguipment needed to repair such problems. Also these tools are expensive to purchase for a use of rarly by the average person. No these items are not hidden but the codes get the mechanic started in the correct direction, from the codes there are tests he has to run to determine the cause of the problem. These types of problems could happen to new or older cars at any time there are many factors that can cause them. Some are easy fixes and some are expensive and hard to fix. Most come under warranty for most have a 5 year 100,000 mile warranty. Hope I answered your questions, I would leave most of these problems to the pros.

I have a Standard Transmission 2005 Dodge Neon SXT. It is revving really high to get up to speed in each gear? Had the timing belt replaced so thats brand new and it still is happening??

2 things come to mind. Are you 100% sure you don't have an emergency brake or any other brake sticking, even partially? 2nd thing would be Catalytic converter may be partially plugged. That is assuming a tune-up, filters etc have been done .

Ok, even if the battery is new, get a voltmeter and measure the battery, if its below 12v, thats the problem. That way you completely eliminate all these factors without a doubt. Also check negative wire from battery to the ground box and connections. It sounds more like a corroded terminal.

We are looking to buy the same 2005 Dodge Neon 2.0 SXT that has 150,000 miles and it does the same thing - vibrates at acceleration and lacks power. We've been told by the buyer that a mechanic said the "Harmonic "Balancer" needs to be replaced. We are hoping to be able to bring the car to a mechanic tomorrow to find out what it is and if it is a major or minor repair (which will determine if we purchase the car or not!).

I have a 2005 Dodge neon sxt and in the morning when I start it the engine makes a really loud knocking for about 15 seconds then it gets softer. The noise is there all day. I have about 66k miles on it...

This is probably a bent pushrod or warped head or something of that sort. SERIOUS problems. Take it to a mechanic. Knocking of any sort is a bad, BAD sign. Good luck.

This indicates that a problem was detected in the camshaft position sensor circuit. Since it says circuit, that means the problem could lie in any part of the circuit - the sensor itself, the wiring, or the PCM. Don't just replace the CPS (camshaft position sensor) and think that will definitely fix it.I hope this helps you
