I had bad luck with graphite before. Try spraying a little bit of WD-40 on it, wiggle and insert and remove the key till the cylinder lubricates and turns. If that doesn't work you might need a new ignition switch.
Hey Anon, Is this a total electronic key,,(push button start)..if so, its an electrical issue. If its a standard key urn ignition. try some DRY graphite on the key.. it will lubricate the switch without the mess of liquids... put the key in and out several times, put some more dry graphite on the key and repeat.. give this some time to work,, if this does not improve the switch.. its time for a new switch assy,
Sounds like new ignition switch is in order. I'm guessing you can't get in neutral? You've tried any other keys? Try some decent penetrant or graphite to unstick it then hit it with compressed air. If that doesn't work my guess is switch is hooped...not too tough if you're mechanical otherwise 20 to 30 minutes for mechanic.
graphite is what needs to used on sticky tumblers oils are the worst and causes more problems. you may be able to wiggle the wheel and get the key out. I would put graphite on the new/other key before I inserted into the ignition. Good Luck Tim
Give the lock a few puffs of graphite dust (available at any hardware store or craft supply store). Stroke the key in and out of the lock (this is called raking the pins), and then turn the lock. Should be better than new. If, however, this doesn't fix it, you may have to replace the lock. I'm betting on the graphite. Best regards, --W/D--
The ignition barrels have been known to fail and this is usually the way they end up. Some graphite may help lubricate the lock, but odds are you'll need a new barrel and bolt kit.
There a several recalls that deal with this problem, it seems that due to a defective part in the ignition interlock system at times the key not be removed from the ignition, it appears the issue is corrected by installing a new lock cylinder, to read the full text of recalls on this issue go to link listed below.
have you tried replacing you ignition switch? atleast do a jump and bypass the switch. at first just min power to run then add the lights... ect. I think that its in the switch because the car is dying and will not restart. let me know [email protected]
