Im trying to find out the teeth go on the belt of a subura forseter 1997 model as i need to tune it cause i changed my belts

Sounds like the distributor is causing problems. The distributors are known to have bearing wear problems, so even if the cap is recently changed, you might need a whole new distributor. At the very least, it sounds like a tune-up may be needed: new spark plugs, wires, and distributor cap.
Also, if you have the V-6, the timing belt needs to be changed every 105,000 miles. a timing belt with stripped teeth could be causing your issues, and if the teeth are stripped it probably won't be long before the belt lets go and you completely ruin the engine. It's an interference engine, so without proper timing, the pistons can make physical contact with open valves, causing bent valves or connecting rods. At that point it is cheaper to replace the whole engine rather than tear it apart and rebuild it.

im sitting here thinking?if its inclosed its a chain,if open at the top its a belt.mazda are part of the ford group and they changed/went back to the chain but im not sure what year im sure it was 97 but what month im lost.adrian,,

Timing belt is missing teeth


The belt has stretched causing the belt to jump timing. When you have a belt to jump a gear or pulley it causes more force on the teeth, breaking them off. That's a lot of torque when an engine turns over and the belt is stretched. It doesn't take much for them to break off, you're lucky the belt didn't break apart, it could have been a bigger mess with valves and head problems. Some belts should be changed every 100,000 miles, some say less. Good Luck.

Timing belt replacement intervals


90 thousand miles. there is a 90k service that needs to be performed, which will include replacing the timing belt, spark plugs, fuel filter, air filter, trans fluid, and checking and adjusting brakes.

How many teeth are there on the timing belt from one timing mark to the other on a 2000 subura forester. or from the cam sproket to the crank and to the other cam sproket.


On EJ 25 motor teeth count is as follows. From crank shaft mark to intake on drivers side is 51 T, 28 T to exhaust. From crank to passenger side Intake is 54.5 T then 28 T down to exhaust. Hope this helps and have a great day.

Engine knocking


Hi,
Good news is - I don't think you need a new engine.

As there are many moving parts that could create a knocking sound, it usually needs careful inspection to identify where it is from.
I will give a list of some of the causes and remedies. Yours will probably be one of them, but unless I was there - it could be any.

Loose exhaust component (causes rattles and thumps) - replace parts or joints.
Loose Engine mounts - Engine will move about a lot more than normal - Replacement of mounts.
Fraying Belts - causes continual ticking or slapping - Replace belts and check tension.
Timing is off - bad running, lack of power, pre ignition or knocking at low revs. Check timing belt - Replace, Tune engine.
Cracked valve - slight misfire worse at low revs - Replacement valves.
Clutch Problems - Broken spring or loose bolt - Check clutch plate - replace clutch plates.
Older engines - often accompanying smoke -
Broken Piston ring - continual ticking or occasional misfire - Replace Piston rings
Worn Piston bearings - Piston Slap - Replacement of all piston bearings.

Transmission Problems (only heard when in gear or with clutch out) - Broken gear teeth or worn bearings - Replacement of Transmission or rebuild.

Some of these remedies require engine removal and strip down, others are a simpler fix.

2003 subaru forester cranks but no fire / no start


If the timing belt is broken or has lost some teeth then you will get no fire. Some models have an inspection port that you can see the belt through. Have someone try to start engine while you watch timing belt. If belt is stationary or moves in jumps then this is your problem.
