Go to the auto parts store and ask for a belt for your vehicle but without a/c. If they made a truck with out a/c in your yr and model, you'll get a belt and ask them for a routing picture. Good Luck, Ned

Go to your local auto parts store and purchase a serpentine belt for a 1997 Ford F150 with the same engine as yours and ask for one without A/C. That belt will work and fit perfectly. You cannot use your existing belt and bypass the A/C compressor as the belt will be too long.

You will have to buy a new tensioner that pushes in the opposite direction as the one that is on there now, and there should be a diagram right under the hood on a yellow sticker that show a solid line for the routing with the airconditioner and a broken line without. I had to do the same thing last year!

I don't know of any way to by-pass the A/C compressor or any component in a serpentine belt system; but, you can unplug the compressor clutch (at the nose of the compressor, behind the pulley), then the compressor will not turn and the pulley just acts as an idler.

My compressor is bad on my 2000 pontiac sunfire 2.4, i am wanting to bypass the belt with a new (smaller belt) can u please tell me what size i will need

Hi,

What you are looking for is called an 'air conditioner compressor bypass pulley'. Most chain auto parts stores have them in stock.

All you do is install the bypass pulley and use a shorter belt.

The only downside is the cost of $25-$40. That's about one-third the cost of a remanufactured unit and the labor is compatible.

All the best

My AC compressor went out on my 2004 Chevy Blazer. Since winter is here, I just want to bypass the ac. I bought a belt for the same yr/make without ac. Where can I find a serpentine belt routing diagram to...

its the same. but a different pulley takes place of the a/c compressor. I know DORMAN makes a few "bypass pulleys" to do this, but dont know if they make one for your truck. at the worst... you will need to get a pulley and bracket from the dealer for a truck without a/c . as long as your a/c pulley bearing is ok, you can let the belt run there.

Bypassing air compressor in a chevy 95 g20 van

Well if you're trying to bypass the air conditioning compressor, your original serpentine belt will obviously not work as it will be too long. Installing another pulley would really be more work that it's worth and likely cost a fair amount since you'd have to have a custom bracket made, or a mount to fit in place of the compressor. Your best bet would be to have your local parts supply look up the belt for the same make, model, year and engine specs as your vehicle but without Air Conditioning. The g20 uses all the same mounting locations for other belt driven accessories regardless of the presence of an AC compressor. Therefore, the belt should fit just fine. Also, you should spot on the belt routing diagram under the hood that it shows the optional routing for a belt without AC. (It does on mine anyway) Good luck and let me know how it goes.
