The only way you can determine your gas mileage is by filling the tank then driving it down, filling it up again and dividing miles driven by gallons burned. You can't determine gas mileage by how fast the gage goes down. You may have made a mistake in your tune-up and got a couple of wires crossed. Someone may be staeling your gas.

Bad gas miles

I would try changing the oxygen sensors, they are required to be changed each time you do a tune up also if you purchase a K&N air cleaner you will get much better gas miliage.

Did a tune up, new plugs, wires, pcv valve and oil change. I wa gettimg almost 400 miles to a tank of gas, now after I did tune up I am lucky to get 280 miles to my full tank of gas. Not sure why, thinking...

Maybe you should do it next time!! Could be a crossed wire, but it would run really bad and might backfire as well. Wrong plugs? Accidently disconnected or broke a vacuum line or fitting. Wrong oil? Oil and/or additives that are higher in viscosity than specified, will reduce mileage, period. Have the oxygen sensors checked. They can gas mileage to suffer as well....maybe one got bumped or something.

What causes my toyota tacoma consume more gas to the mile than normal.

There are several issues that can cause poor gas mileage. I suggest you perform ( or have performed) a tune up. Filters, Fluids, Spark Plugs, Wires, Belts, etc.. & see if that improves your fuel economy...

I am getting poor fuel economy. The truck has 88,800 miles. Fuel filter, and air filter were changed in 2011. The tailpipe is black and I run fuel injecter cleaner every 3000 miles.

Poor fuel economy can come from bad fuel or tune up.Try switching to a gas with a higher octane and give your truck a full tune up.This should help your fuel economy out a little.

How do i know if i need a tune up?

Usually @ 50-60,000. New air filter, Gas filter, Plugs and wires.......If car starts running rough or hard to start and miss fire is a good sign of a tune up needed..............Hope this helps.

Poor gas mileage

I hope your friend put some gas stabilizer in the tank before he store the car.

I will put one bottle of ISO-HEET (red bottle) to the fuel tank + fill-up and let it run down to 1/3 tank.

Fuel up with a full tank Chevron gas for one more pass.

You should get 21 city / 26 highway on the PT 2.4 Liter engine.

take 2 miles off if it's an automatic.

It could be it needed the tune up or it may have a bad fuel pump or a plugged cat or a bad ingtion coil so after the tuneup ask the guys to do a fuel pressure test also in the tune up tell them to replace fuel and air filter. Also doing a top engine clean would be a good ideal as you will have carbon build up causing the compression ratio to go to high and cause the car not to be able to advance the timing. But the dying is fuel pump or lack of fire or air.
