Location of the steering rack bushings on a 2001 grand am se


Steering rack and pinion is under the car, on the back side of the engine frame. There is only one bushing. On the passenger side. The drivers side is solid. No bushing. If it is sloppy. Frames break.

You will have to drop the whole a frame down, because the bushes are split two piece type, cone shaped and feed in from each side, then just knock them out with a big drift..

Should there be any play in the frame mount bushings on the lower control arm or the rack and pinion frame mount bushing?


The control arm will move some, the bushings are rubber. Made to do that so the ride isn't like being in a tank. The rack only has one bushing, on the passenger side. If your talking about the bar behind the rack. It is called a sway bay. It has two frame bushings. If the sway bar is moving up and down 1/2 inch, the bushing are bad. There should be some movement, but 1/2 inch is excessive. Again they are rubber. Any thing rubber is going to have movement. But should be sloppy.

How to change the stabilizer bushings on a 2011 toyota avalon


This video is not a toyota avalon but is much the same.
If you are replacing the bushings on the frame be sure to use penetrating oil and allow it to soak in before trying to remove the bolts. The bolts are small and will break off easily. The result is that the frame parts to replace cost $40.00 each.
Been there done that. The bushings are only about $8.00 a pair. If you need the links check Ebay.

2004 chrysler pacifica is clunking on very small bumps. Not during braking though. I've looked at struts and they seem okay. Nothing loose that I can see or feel. Ideas?


JACK UP THE FRONT OF THE CAR AT THE FRAME TILL THE TIRE IS OFF THE GROUND.THEN TRY MOVING THE STRUT AND THE SPRING!!ALSO LOOK AT THE SWAY BAR LINKS CONNECTED TO THE LOWER A ARM OR STRUT!!

NEED TO REPLACE A-FRAME BUSHINGS AND UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINTS


the ball joints are not to bad to replace. if they are factory they may have rivits holding them in the A frame and the new joints should come with bolts. some are pressed in and will require a press to remove.
the A frame bushings are a beast to change remove the bolts and you will have to take the A frames to a shop with a press to remove and install the new ones

Every time i drive into a hole my car will make this big noise just like i head iron


does it come from one of the front wheels?passenger side or driverside front?you may have a bad ball joint on one of those front ball joints.it could also be a bad strut on either front side. only an alighment can tell if it's a a bad control arm bushing or an 'a' frame bushing going bad. depending on how many miles your car has on it, and how rough it's been driven will determine the bushing life you have on 'a' frame bushings or the struts life left. i would start with the struts 1st. if you push up and dowm on the hood of your car, does it bounce up and down more than once? thats a good test for struts. if it bounces u good luck and thank you for choosing fixya.comp and down say 3 times after pushing it doen once, the struts bad.good luck and thank you for choosing fixya.com

When i hit the brakes hard and fast the front end makes a clunk noiseon the driver side.


the most probable cause of that clunk is the radius arm bushings need replacing i have done LOTS of those . if you are not a mechanic or have limited skill this repair is fairly difficult..( not being rude just trying to save you a headache ) the radius arm extends rearward from front axle to frame..one on each side . look at the bushings where it goes through the frame bracket there should be a rubber bushing on both sides of that frame bracket and they should be compressed with no gap.. i hope that helps

Check the sway bar bushings on the frame and the sway bar end links, it's common for the sway bar bushings on the frame to go bad and the sway bar end links bushings to go bad. You can buy the urethane bushings at Auto Zone or Parts Source for around $35.00 for both sides.Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to know your got your car running 100% again soon.

Hard to shift into park


I have a 97 intrepid and also had problems shifting in to park, the problem turned out to be the body to frame isalator bushings were bad .these rubber bushings are under the car mounted to a U shaped frame member that help hold the engine and transmission in place once the bushings go bad the transmission shifter cable becomes miss-alligned and cannot move properly
