Question about 2003 Honda Pilot

Keys no longer turn ignition

Keys go into ignition but then nothing. They will not turn the cylinder. I have turned the wheel and tried (hundreds of times) and played with the shifter arm. The steering wheel is now locked. I ahve sprayed PB blaster into it and tried. I think the cylinder is bad. Locksmith?

If you have another key I would try this first, Hondas have a tendency to wear their keys out not allowing the key to align properly with the cylinder.

Good luck and I hope this helps you.

The ignition key in 2002 Toyota Sequoia won't turn. Do I need a new lock cylinder or should I try other things first?

This is caused by the accumulation of metal shavings in the ignition switch cylinder from year's of internal wear. The cylinder can be removed and cleaned, oftentimes resolving the sticking issue. It requires some removal of panels and dismantling of components, which can be intimidating if inexperienced. A dealer will definitely only put in a new unit, as no one cleans parts anymore. Check YouTube under 'cleaning of ignition switches/cylinders' and you'll see a step by step procedure for the process. This can help you decide whether you want to tackle the job yourself.

96 camry ignition key very hard to turn. have to violently jiggle, turn wheel, stomp brakes to get ignition to turn. is it ignition, steering lock, breaks?

Have you tried getting a new key cut? Worn keys can do that. Other than that I would say a worn out ignition lock cylinder. Mike

My ignition cylinder is getting stuck and will not turn the key to start unless I keeping trying over and over. I turn the wheel or press the brakes but nothing. Please help.

You need to take your vehicle to the dealership. They will install a new ignition lock cylinder, it seems as the tumblers in yours are worn. They are able to reprogram your keys to the new lock cylinder so the anti-theft system will recognize your keys.

MY ignition wil not turn. I have tried every lubricant the parts store recommended. How do I replace it without having to spend so much money. I have a 2001 ford escape.

When did this happen? Have you tried turning the steering wheel to one side (then try to turn the key) or the other side (then turn the key)? If your steering wheel is kinked a little bit the key will not turn. Use a little force and turn the steering wheel one (holding the wheel turn the key) way then the other (holding the wheel turn the key) trying the key each turn. Don't be afraid to use a little force. The best thing to use in an ignition is graphite (just a little in the ignition)

Ignition key will not turn. Steering wheel is locked. Key works on all locks in the car except the ignition. Have tried jiggling, hitting with end of screwdriver, heating key, heating tumber.

find a nissan dealer and buy a new lock cylinder, have them set the tumblers for you then find a video of someone installing one over on and put it in. a dealer can put one in for you for less than a hundred bucks, but having them set the tumblers to match your original keys is extra.

Ignition and steering wheel on 1996 Corsica are locked.

Your key or the lock cylinder may be overly worn, to the extent that the key no longer moves the pins to the correct positions to allow the cylinder to rotate.

Assuming that the lock cylinder hasn't been progressively getting more difficult to turn, you may be able to aggressively rotate the steering wheel against the lock back and forth while attempting to rotate the key to disengage a frozen steering lock.

2001 gmc yukon xl key in ignition won't turn to start at all.

The tumblers in the ignition lock may be seized, try cleaning it out first with a small spray of WD40 and try the spare ignition keys. The keys it self may be too worn down for the tumblers in the lock and if you have lots of other keys on your key chains, this will promote the lock to wear out quicker. Good luck and hope this helps and try turning the steering where back and forth as you try to turn the ignition key.

I cant start my van because the key wont turn.

Try putting a little oil from the dip stick on a key, then try it. Or spray some WD-40 into the lock.
