How to remove water pump drivebelt on 2005 Escape

I am removing a water pump from a 2005 Escape with a V6 engine. How do I remove the drivebelt? There does not appear to be a belt tensioner. The belt goes from the pulley on the pump to the pulley on the cam shaft and does not touch anything else.

If there is no tensioner pulley then you will have to pry it on and off or remove water pump.

Free manual if you go to autozone..com and register.
or go to google ebooks and find a free chiltons manual.

BELT REPLACEMENT 2010 3.0 FORD ESCAPE

The above diagrams and advice are off base. The Excape 3.0 Duratech V6 has the water pump on the back (driver side) of the engine, in the center of the "V" and driven by a belt from the pulley on the back side of the overhead camshaft. Unlike earlier duratech V6s, which had a tensioner, the belt has enough give to remove/install with the pulleys in place. I have used tousleyfordparts.com where entering the VIN pulls up the correct part.
Also, the front, main, serpentine belt is a piece of cake once you remove the protective plactic cover from underneith the engine. The tensioner releases counterclockwise, and the belt circles only the alternator pulley, A/C compressor pulley, and vibration damper on the crankshaft.

How do you retime a timing belt for a Chrysler Cirrus 1995 V6

Position the number one cylinder at TDC. Take the hot side terminal off. Remove the drivebelts. Loosen the large bolt in the center of the crankshaft pulley/damper. After removing the crankshaft pulley, reinstall the crankshaft bolt using an appropriate priate spacer (this will enable you to turn it later) Remove the upper-left timing belt cover. Remove the lower timing belt cover. Detach the power steering pump bracket from the engine. Remove the right (passenger side) engine mount and the mounting bracket from the engine. Make sure the engine is supported with a floor jack placed under the oil plan. Place a wood block on the jack head to prevent damaging the oil pan. Loosen the timing belt tensioner mounting bolts and then remove the tensioner. Carefully slip the timing belt off the sprockets. This is a good time to check the crank and camshafts for leaks. Make sure your marks are lined up before you put it back together. Best wishes.

Replace water pump v6

1. Drain the coolant.
2. Loosen, (don't remove yet) the 4 bolts that hold the water pump pulley.
3. Remove the drivebelt. In order to remove the belt you need to put a wrench on the tensioner pulley to decrease the tension on the belt.
4. Now remove the 4 bolts loosened in step 2.
5. Disconnect the upper radiator hose from the water pump and disconnect the bypass hose from the top of the water pump.
6. Remove the drivebelt tensioner by removing the bolt in the center of it.
7. Remove the water pump bolts. There are 6mm and 8mm bolts, a total of 12 bolts. They are not all the same length. Be careful to note which bolts go in which holes.
8. After all bolts are removed sometimes the pump will require a little whack with a rubber mallet to unseat the gasket. Never pry between the pump and engine block.
9. Before installing the new pump, clean all the old gasket material from the engine block.
10. Use RTV sealant on both sides of the gasket for the new pump.
And............ the rest is just reversing the above except that you can fully tighten the pump pulley before putting the belt back on.
I hope this is helpful.

Timing belt “B” (balancer belt) and related components—2004–2005 Galant and 2004–2005 Lancer 2.4L engine

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the engine under cover.
  2. Remove the crankshaft damper pulley.
  3. Disconnect the control wiring harness connector, battery wiring harness connector and connector bracket to engine mounting insulator.
  4. Remove the harness bracket. Remove the upper timing belt cover. Remove the water pump pulley. Remove the idler pulley.
  5. Remove the auto tensioner. Remove the lower timing belt cover.
  6. Turn the crankshaft clockwise and align each timing mark to set the number one piston to TDC of its compression stroke.
  7. Remove the timing belt under cover rubber plug and then install special tool MD998738. Screw the special tool until it contacts the timing belt tensioner arm.

NOTE The special tool must be screwed in gradually at the rate of a 30 degree turn per second. If it is screwed in all at once, the timing belt tensioner adjuster rod will not easily retract and the tool may bend.

  8. Gradually screw in the special tool and then align the timing belt tensioner adjuster rod set hole “A” with the timing belt tensioner adjuster cylinder set hole “B”.
  9. Insert a wire or pin in the set holes to lock the assembly in place. After removing the special tool, loosen the timing belt tensioner pulley mounting bolts and remove the timing belt. If the belt is being reused be sure to mark the direction of rotation (clockwise) on the belt.
  10. Remove the timing belt tensioner pulley, tensioner arm and adjuster.
  11. Remove the timing belt idler pulley. Remove the timing belt lower cover bracket. Remove the crankshaft position sensor.
  12. Remove the crankshaft pulley center bolt and washer. Remove the drive sprocket. Remove the crankshaft angle sensing blade.
  13. Remove the balancer timing belt tensioner. Remove the timing belt “B” (balancer belt) from its mounting.

Water Pump Drive Belt

a bunch of idiots - the guy is right there are 2 belts - one serpentine and one just for the water pump - you will need to remove the water pump and belt at the same time - if the belt is frayed then you can bet the water pump is close to shot too
