I have a 1991 GMC suburban, it started fine and then quit on its own (stalled)at a trafic light. Since that point it will start and then run for about 13 seconds consitsantly then quit on its own again. Any Ideas? I'm thinking fuel filter? or obstruction in the line?

Fuel filter is replaced and plugs are clean. Got the power back but it blows strong black spray from the tailpipe indicating fuel not burning. Still only runs for 13 seconds just a alot stronger. Ignition module?

Update,, it is fuel injected 454. Found it blew a fuse to the ignition control computer. Fixed that and now the fuse blows just by turning the key to the on position before actually turning over the engine. It does not start at all now but turns over. SO,, new problem. Turn the key to the forward position and the fuse blows before engageing the starter but will turn over without starting. Ignition switch? ignition module? ignition coil?

You need to replace the fuel filter every 30000 miles. The gas stations tanks are full of dirt. Also check the flow of the catalitic converter.Put your hand at the tail pipe while someone is pushing the gas petal down. The farther they push the petal the more exhaust should be coming out.
I hope this helps you

That truck has a carburator doesnt it. Check and make sure the choke device is opening.(if thats what it has)

Can you go to a junk yard and get the ignition control computer for cheap? Some "you pull it" yards are cheap. I would think if the fuse for that is burning then maybe the problem is inside the ignition control comp. Let me know. If you cant find a junk yard one, I have yards around here I could find one and send it to you.

1999 GMC Suburban V8 starts with little hesitation, I warm it up take off it seems fine then it starts chugging and misfires. It doesn't stall but it clears up in about 5-10 minutes. We just changed...

Might be your coolant temp. sensor. Also, does your suburban have two oxygen sensors? Many cars have one in front of catalytic converter for computer fuel requirements, and another behind the cat., mainly used to measure health of the cat.

I think my fuel pump is bad, how do I replace it? It loose power, and stalls, after it run for an hour , or less Fred..

Pump is in the tank also it could be the spark module in under the distributor cap. Some time they heat up and shutdown. Once they cool it will start back up but some day it will quit for good.

Suburban stalls while driving after running for 15-30 minutes. After letting it sit for 5-10 min it runs fine for another 5-10 minutes, then starts doing it all over again.

a bad crank sensor can cause this. shuts off while going down road, and will start about 10 min, later with no problems runs fine until it quits again. hope this helps,
