That doesn't sound right as there are no exhaust components in the engine compartment. The only thing that comes to mind is leaking headers......

SOURCE: theres was smoke coming from the exhaust and engine

if you have white smoke in your exhaust, you have a blown headgasket, and if you 626 is turbo'd and depending to the tubo is cooled eg antireeze, then coolant could be leaking out that way too. also it would be helpfull to know what the steam is coming from. BUT since you mentioned that is coming from the exhaust, it woud wager that its a blown head gasket. you can veryfi this a number of way. take out your spark plugs one at a time and have a look at them. if a couple look "too clean" or seam to "steam cleaned" compared to the other ones = lack carbon build up etc, then the plug that you took out is the cylinder where the engine coolant is leaking into. also, you can do a compression test = which ever cyclinders are super low = blown gasket is located on that cylinder. PS if you do have a blown head gasket, you should replace your oxygen sensor as well because the glycol in the antifreeze wrecks the O2 sensor.

A major fuel odor could be a fuel leak in the engine compartment, or the gas tank, or the line under the van.
If the smell is coming in thru the vents on the dash, its on the engine or in the engine compartment.

White smoke out exhaust is coolant & a blown head gasket

Why is my car making a knocking noiz


That's a real vague question, is the knocking coming from the engine compartment, or from somewhere else on the vehicle? if it's coming from the engine compartment then I would say you have a mechanicle problem with the engine, if it's coming from another point on the car you have a driveable problem, eg. CV axles, brake problems, loose exhaust,ect.ect.ect.. good luck...

My van is burning oil (a lot of it) I just put in 4qt of oil two weeks ago, and again it's empty. What can i do to fix this


First you need to determine if the van is "burning" oil or "leaking" oil. If the exhaust is bluish in color, this is a good indicator that you are burning oil and you probably need a valve job. A common issue with vehicles this age is an oil leak around the valve cover gasket. Oil leaks and burns off on the manifold. If when you open the hood and smell a great deal of oil, this is more likely the cause of using so much oil. The best way is to inspect the engine compartment first. If you can't spot any excess oil there, get under the van and look for a leak near the oil pan, oil plug, or more forward toward the engine compartment. Hope you find this answer helpful. Power windows and ac/heater went out.


Sounds like some major wiring issues', Does the Car not get driven much? If a mouse got in the engine compartment its very possible that they could've chewed threw the wires, Check the Fuses, and also the connections in the Fuse Block and at the connections to the accessories, then also check the relays, if nothing shows up either in the engine compartment or in the passenger compartment you will have to go through the wiring harness'

96 Ranger, "popping" sounds from Engine compartment


if it has been awhile since the belt was changed it may be a good idea to change it and get a timing light and check the timing also make sure the beads in the catalytic converter is not releasing and starting to plug up the exhaust system

96 Ranger, "Popping" coming from engine compartment


Possibly you have a leaky or cracked exhaust manifold. After the engine heats the metal expands and creates a larger gap. As the engine speeds up the engine noise overcomes the exhaust leak noise and you don't really notice it much until the vehicle gets in to a hard pull or comes to and idle.
