Ok, so I replaced the upper switch and still the same problem either the top (glass) pops open or if I get it closed neither the glass or main tailgate. How do I gain access and replace the lower switch and idea on cost for the part?

check the fuse/relay. if it is neither of these check the switch with a multimeter. If you can hear the motor trying to move the glass when you try the switch it may be the regulator needs attention. It may be the motor needs to be replaced.
check fuse and relay along with the switch first then the regulator and motor afterwards. Replacing the small electronics is obviously easier than having to open up the tailgate to check the mechanics of the winedow.
hi if its the type that has the pop up rear window in the tailgate its most likely that there is water in the lift switch to the tailgate glass the one which sits in the rear wiper mounting sometimes when you pull away in the car rapidly the boot will click open is another symptom a replacement switch button is all you need
Today is your lucky day. Get inside of your vehicle to open the lift gate and then open the glass from the inside as well . From the outside of the vehicle with the gate down and the glass open you will see the cover on the glass held in place by two screws. Remove this cover to expose the micro switch for the glass opening handle. You will see a small white connector and with a little patience you can remove this connector. If the glass switch is bad your hatch will now open and your glass should close without having to lock the locks. The switch is a dealer item and goes for around $50 and a bit more dissassembly of window to replace switch/Handle. Happened to me and cost 100 just for them to tell me what was wrong. I used a stick to poke the safty latch for almost two yrs
