Where is the stop lamp switch located in a 2006 Pontiac Torrent? My break lights will not light when break pedal is depressed. All lamps work when headlights are on. It is also making the cruise control not function.

Which fuse is for the brake lights in a 2006 ford pickup truck?

If memory serves, this is direct from the battery (hot all the time, key not needed); probably on a fusible link wire. The question should be WHY are the lamps not working? Assuming both lamps are good; the brake light switch or one of it's wires on the top of the pedal must be shorted or the switch has failed. Get a good flashlight and take a close look. Still; most likely you just have two bad lamps. If the headlights are off and the turn-signals are on with the brakes depressed do both filaments work in the lamps? I'm guessing not.

Sorry, that should have been esc light on 2010 Hyundai Elantra

The brake light recall you got in the mail should fix the ESC light.

HYUNDAI IS RECALLING 532,633 MY 2006-2007 ACCENT, ENTOURAGE, SONATA, MY 2007 AZERA, ELANTRA AND SANTA FE, MY 2005-2007 TUCSON AND MY 2007-2008 VERACRUZ VEHICLES. THE STOP LAMP SWITCH IN THE AFFECTED VEHICLES MAY MALFUNCTION. A MALFUNCTIONING STOP LAMP SWITCH MAY CAUSE THE BRAKE LIGHTS TO NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED OR MAY CAUSE THE BRAKE LIGHTS TO REMAIN ILLUMINATED WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS RELEASED. A STOP LAMP SWITCH MALFUNCTION MAY ALSO AFFECT THE OPERATION OF THE BRAKE-TRANSMISSION SHIFT INTERLOCK FEATURE SO THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTER WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO BE SHIFTED OUT OF THE PARK POSITION. IT MAY ALSO CAUSE THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) MALFUNCTION LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE, AND IT MAY NOT DEACTIVATE THE CRUISE CONTROL WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED.

The stop lamp switch is used to judge if the acceleration system is abnormal. The stop lamp switch contains two switches monitored by the PCM. This is all covered at the dealer.

The stop lamp switch contains two switches monitored by the PCM. This will cause the issue you are having. It will illuminate the engine light also and cause the transmission to go into limp mode which is what's happening. Have replaced many for this same exact issue. This is what needs to be done next. The engine and ESC light come on together.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I'll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using Fixya, and have a nice day.

My break lights turn on by them self why?

FEBRUARY 2009 -- GM is recalling 8,012 MY 2005-2006 Pontiac G6 vehicles. The brake lamps may not operate properly because of corrosion in a wiring connector. Corrosion in the connector could cause the brake lamps to illuminate when the brake pedal has not been depressed, or the lamps may not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed. In addition, the cruise control may not engage, and greater brake pedal force may berequired to shift the vehicle out of PARK. Brake lamps that are not operating properly may not warn a driver in a following vehicle of the braking status and could lead to a crash without prior warning. Dealers will apply a dielectric lubricant to the connector to prevent corrosion. This service will be performed for you free of charge. The recall began on February 17, 2009. Owners may contact Pontiac at 1- 800-620-7668 or owner center at www.gmownercenter.com. This recall was the subject of a Preliminary Evaluation, PE08-054, conducted by the Office of Defects Investigation. 09V-036

2007 chevy silverado brake lights dont work but the one above bed and blinkers and tail lights do work

I had the same problem! I used a piece of wood to keep the break pedal depressed and then started to remove one of the break lamps and to my surprise it came on! Same thing on the other side. So I did not seat (bottom out) the lamps in their sockets and both break light are now working properly. I had a similar issue last spring but that time only one light was out. I put in a new bulb and it still did not work so I messed around with it a little more and it started working. Never did figure it out until now. Hope this helps!

Does the CHMSL ( Center High Mount Stop Lamp ) work ?

If this does not work, check the BPP ( Brake Pedal Position ) Switch, mounted on the brake pedal lever. There should be 4 wires to it, 2 are for the shift interlock, the other 2 are the brake lamp switch.

The brake lamp switch feeds direct the CHMSL and the MFS for the Stop/Turn combo lamps.

Without a CHMSL, I would suspect the BPP switch.

The wire colors on the F-150 are Light Green & Light Green w/ Red stripe for the stop lamp circuit. If you have this color combo, unplug the connector, and try jumpering the 2 together, to see if you have brake lamps.

Assuming the mechanic already checked the fuse for the BPP

2001 odyssey no tail lights but break lights work.

Check the lamps first to see if both are good, do a wiggle test to see if the lamp's socket is good(sometimes they get too hot and the contacts spread open). Next check fuses for the running lights and break lights. If the running lights work on the front but not on the back then its not a fuse its a ground issue. Use a stick or another person to depress the break pedal to check for power at the plug that goes to the stop/running light lamp.
