It sounds like you have a leaking heater core. But definately check the hoses going to it also. Sometimes if those hoses get a crack or small hole in them they can cause some steam inside the car as well.

Good Luck

Testimonial: "good plan but I need to know where to look ??? under dash hood firewall"

  • makinoa55 Oct 13, 2009

I am not completely faminliar with your particular model, but under the hood you should have 2 rubber hoses running to the firewall, one is a "feed" line the other is the "return". If something is wrong with one of them you should be able to see the leak, probably very close to the fire wall if it is steaming up inside the car. To see the leak the engine will have to be warm and under pressure.

If you don't see any leaks near the firewall, check to see if the passenger side floor is wet, or if there is a noticable coolant smell inside the car. Usually when the inside of the windshield gets fogged / steamed up is is the heater core. It is rare but I have seen vehicles leak from a hose that sprayed inside the firewall. Your best bet is to have the system pressure tested. Most repair shops can do this easily, and shouldn't charge too much to do it.

    Good Luck

Toyota celica dash board red light light comes on looks like a pan with steam symbls coming outt steaming pan is it the breaks or catalatic converter heating up

There is no warning light for catalytic converter heating uo. Brake light usually is a exclamation mark inside a circle inside parentheses. What you are describing sounds more like a temperature warning light for the cooling system.

I have steam a coming threw my dashboard which is causing mwindows to steam up on the inside

You have a small coolant leak in the heater core, which is located under the dash about in the middle. The Core can be replaced, the core will cost about $30.oo but is a bit of a job to get to as it is mounted in the dash. Hope this helps.

underneath the car, just in front of where the feet would be for a passenger in the front seat. You evaperator is under the dash on the right, and the drain comes out of the firewall so it will drain onto the road.

Air con gas leaking & noises from under dash

Hi jrm the smoke under the wing is the fuel fired heater and is normal. the noise is the heater motors for the heater flaps, there is a jag fix but you have to replace all the motors just ignore it.  Try changeing the filter for the heater under the left side scuttle panel thats below the black plastic panel below the screen that will help the steaming up     D

2001 Jimmy, ran a little hot and steam was coming out of the window defrost vents, changed the thermostat now steam is really comming out of the window defrost vents. What do we need to do?

You heater core is leaking causing steam to come out of the interior vents. This is quite a process to replace a heater core in one of these cars. The entire dash needs to be removed. The core itself is located under the middle of the dash towards the top. If you do this job yourself, take your time and allow a full weekend to do if you've never done one before.
