Have the trans fluid chaged, and filter if applical. Then use specifide fluid, with a additive, synthitic additive. If this does not fix the problem,go see a trans expert.

I have a ford focus 2005 96000 miles. It slips from first to second and then it jerks back into 2nd and also the transmission light is on. I cant afford a new transmission. what should i do?

Park it.
Most likely the trans is in need of being rebuilt.
Most people never change trans fluid, and you end up with what you have.
Changing fluid now, won't repair anything,so forget that.
Don't install a used trans either, that's some elses bad trans, like yours.

How to check oil in ford focus gearbox automatic

The recent Ford Automatics do not all have a dipstick. You can remove a sight plug on the side of the Transmission and see if it is full as described in a repair manual, such as Chiltons or Haynes. These can be picked up at your local auto parts store, book store, or WalMart.
The idea is that these new transmissions and fluids are so reliable that you should not need to check it - between major servicing - such as changing the transmission filter and fluid. Depending on the model this should be at least around 50,000 miles.
