6.6 to 7 quarts. Some just get filled with less, some with a little more. Go figure.

If the filter mounts verticaly, then fill the filter all the way up,or close to it,this just prevents,a dry start.

Hello d_dusch.

If you are replacing the oil and the oil filter it will take 6.4 quarts to fill to proper level.

Where is the oil filter located on my 09 Toyota Tundra 5.7L?

In a cylindrical aluminum housing, on the side of the engine. The new Tundras do not use a 'spin-on" filter, they are 'cartridge' filters now.

Oil change on a tundra

No special wrench needed for filter.
The oil filter is located in the front of the engine on the right side, down at the bottom.
It's easier to change the filter by taking of the front skid plate underneath. You'll need a 12mm socket to take it off.

If you try to get it from the top, you'll get oil all over the skid plate and have a big mess to clean up. Plus, you may damage the radiator by leaning on it.

Oil presure low on start up, rod noise for first 15 sec if temp below 30

You need to switch to synthetic oil as soon as possible! When you change the oil, make sure that you are replacing the filter with the correct one. Some filters contain an anti-drain back valve that prevents this problem. The synthetic oil will flow more rapidly when cold and prevent the epidemic problems that toyota has had with sludge build-up.
