Question about 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee

My 94 Grand Cherokee has intermittent brake lights. Both bulbs are good, the fuse is good and I even checked a new brake light switch. Anything I am missing?

Your going to have to try to run two new ground wires to the socket assemblies. Your trucks getting older and might be rusting there.

Have you checked the brake light fuse to see if there is power at the fuse and out of the fuse, also check the brake light switch for power in and out when the pedal is pressed, do that and get back to me.?

No brake lights

Check for a bad fuse in the fuse panel under the dash and the brake light bulbs in the brake light housings for bad bulbs. Next check the brake light switch at the brake pedal to see if there is power going to it. With a voltmeter check the switch and if it is bad replace it. If the switch is good and has power to it, check the wiring from the switch to the brake light housing for a shorted wire

Brake lights dont work

Check the brake light switch, it is down on the brake pedal lever, you can dis-connect the wire connector at the brake light switch and check for broken wires at the connector, and then jumper the connector with a paper clip, if the brake lights come on then replace your brake light switch.

There might be more than one switch attached to the brake light pedal lever, the brake light switch usually only has two wires going to it when there are two switches.

If there is no problem with the brake light switch then you can suspect the turn-signal switch to be at fault, as all of the running lights, turn-signals, brake lights, and hazard lights are all ran through the turn-signal switch. You can also try stepping on the brake pedal and wiggle around the turn-signal switch and see if the brake lights flicker or come on.

Sounds like your brake light switch needs to be replaced.  It is attached to the brake pedal and should cost you around $20 from an auto parts store.  If the fuses and bulbs are good there is a 99% chance it is the brake light switch.  Hope this helps!  Thanks for an honest rating and for using FixYa.

Rear Brake Lights not working, 3rd light is working

check the fuse for the stoplights. Even though the 3rd one is working it should be on a different fuse. With both of them not working even after you changed the bulb it would seem to lead to a fuse.
