Installing drive belt on 1998 Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight

I'm trying to install a drive belt. How do you get the belt past the engine mount ?

I removed a bolt on the bottom leg of the mount, then saw coolant draining. Obviously this was the wrong bolt.

Any help appreciated.

The motor mount does not need to come off, there is a bracket associated with this mount that unbolts to allow access to remove the belt. you do not have to jack the engine or remove the mount.

How do i change the serpintine belt on a 1998 oldsmobile eighty eight?

This is what I could find. I'm not familiar with your car. But depending on the tensioner tipe. You might have to push the tensioner pulley down with a socket wrench. To remove the belt.

How to replace the brakes on a 1998 Eighty Eight Oldsmobile. How do you get the mounting bracket off so the new pads can be put on?

Different bolts are used for different GM model cars. A Torx or a regular hex socket is sometimes used on GM cars. 2 of them hold the bracket on to the hub assembly.

Be sure to support the caliper with a coat hanger or bungy cord so the flexible brake line is not damaged.

Also, it is a good idea to use a Torque wrench (1/2" or 3/8") to get the proper torque of these bolts back to specifications according to your repair manual.

I do not know if you have either the 3.8L or 3.8L Super Charger, or what Engine Options (AC/No AC, etc.) you have. The Link has several Diagrams to match your specific vehicle engine.

How to replace Serpentine belt

If you reach through the passenger side front wheel well, you can remove the Torx bolt that attaches the motor mount to the engine. It runs through a spacer (about 2" long) which you can remove. This should allow you to install the serpentine belt.

Change belt

Not removed but part of it has to be taken apart.
It uses a special tool - Torx Socket. I have done it in just a few min - took the spacer out of the mount and put the belt on - did not have to raise the motor to reassemble!

Supertine belt

Some of these have a motor mount that has to be removed in order to take the belt off. I am assuming that you have probably gotten that far and need to know why the belt is wrapped aroung this mount? Hope this is helpful.
