Question about Ford Taurus X

1 Answer

I replaced the alternator on my 1997 Ford Taurus as it was not charging the battery. Now the car will not start and has a dry crank. I checked all the fuses and found them to be ok. I am looking for advice on what to look for next?

A few guesses here.... sounds like you may have the wrong alternator. If the connections (or alternator) are wrong, then the battery lead could be shorting....hence no starting!

If you simply connect a jumper cable lead to the starter side of the starter relay and touch the other side to the + side of the battery, the engine turns over.
If it does "crank", then you have a bad (or wrong) alternator for your car (probably).

I have 2006 ford taurus check charging system and battery light on what's the problem help me please

Battery Light usually means the alternator is not charging correctly and needs to be replaced. Check charging volts, it should at 14 volts or very close to that number. If the number is low below 12 then the alternator needs to be replaced.

Note: A bad alternator can damage the battery & vise versa

Check charging system light for 2006 ford taurus

You would need to check the connections on the back of the alternator with a meter.
You should have battery voltage on the large wire and on the orange yellow wire.
The other two wires involve the engine computer which turns the alternator on after the engine starts.

I have a 2002 ford taurus station wagon and the battery is not charging. We changed the battery twice and still not charging.

You need to have your alternator checked.... A good sign is if you start your car and take the pos. battery cable loose and the car dies chances are your alternator is bad...

1997 ford taurus charging issue, checked connections, replaced alt and still having same issue. I also checked fusible links and all is good.

Hello and welcome to FixYa!

Try replacing the battery connectors. Check the alternator wiring and battery cables if they are corroded. Something prohibits it from charging and one of it is corrosion.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

1997 ford taurus GL battery light stays on or sometimes dim alt. checks o.k. what is the problem.

When you say it check ok, can you please explain what you mean in more detail, because if your Alternator light comes on or is dim, your alternator is likely not producing enough amps to fully charge the battery. The battery may test good, but the alternator has to work too hard to keep it charged. Have a check run on the amperage output on your alternator to see if it produces the factory recommended amperage. You can get a tester or probably borrow one from Auto Zone auto parts if there is one near you. If not, you can buy an amp tested from your local auto parts store or you can take it to your local shop and they might test it for free.

2004 Taurus will not crank

Does it crank with a jumpstart?

If so, then have the belt to the alternator checked. Do you make short trips? It may just take that long for the battery to discharge enough to not crank the engine.
