Question about 1988 Chevrolet Corvette

Open Question

1988 Corvette convertible, we can't seem to get the top to loosen from the rear hatch in order to put it down. One side will come part way up, but the other side does not move at all. And ideas?

SOURCE: just bought 1990 Corvette convertible w/Hardtop

All I can do is suggest as my 'Vette's are older.

If my research is correct, I did find that the decklid latch mechanism is released by a cable. The cable probably has stuck in the cable sheath, due to years of neglect, (Failure to periodically lube the cable. Hint/hint)

You need to manually release the decklid mechanism.
Now bear with me, as again, my 'Vette's are older, ('70 and '76), and their seats tilt forward.

If you can tilt the passenger seat forward, perhaps you can get in there and lube this cable through it's sheath. (Use penetrating oil at first. I would then remove the cable, and clean it, then lube it, after getting the decklid open. Lube? White Lithium in a spray can)

Then try to pull the latch mechanism in the direction the cable would pull it, to release it.
(The cable may be broken?)

Yes! Whoever does this feat of magic, of getting to that decklid mechanism, will look like a contortionist! Hit the jacuzzi afterwards! lol!

SOURCE: 2000 corvette convertible top rear window came

This is a common problem with many cars. It is delamination. If the window is loose in spots, it can often be repaired with urethane adhesive like glass shops use for windshields. If the glass is more than 30% delaminated, chances of fixing it are slim. With the glass all the way out, you need a new top. Karl at topgunwon.com

The parcel shelf is that flat area behind you head of the rear seat. Normally has speakers or junk on it. On hatch back cars it lifts up as you open the hatch.

I put my top from my 87 corvette in the car yesterday now i cant get the hatch back open to get it out it makes a clicking sound when i try but hatch doesnt open any ideas

theres a manual release to the left of the rear latch, might have to stick your hand in where your cover comes out. should be just a short cable you can grab onto and pull to open it. The clicking noise means it is working and just needs the cable adjusted.

From the inside, at the lock, tucked under the sunshade, is a manual cable release, . Kinda hard to find but when you find it, pull and it'll open.

How do I put the convertible top down ?

If you reach behind the headrest on the driver's side, you should feel a handle. Pull that handle to release pins from the rear deck lid. Then there is a small yellow button under the deck lid or you can use the slide switch located on either door to release the deck lid. Next you must unlatch the front by pulling on the handles located above each of the visors. Then, with the deck lid open, fold the top down into the cargo area and close the deck lid.
Hope this helps.
