Question about 2000 Saturn SL

1 Answer

I have a 2001 Saturn SC-1 which has about 115,000 miles on the engine. Since it was purchased (new in 2000) it has occasionally idled high (2000 rpms)dealer mechanics at the time had no answers, so I just lived with it. Lately that problem has become more frequent and more severe (3000 rpms in park). Additionally, now the engine will initially ramp up when I decelerate. It will also coast at nearly 2000 rpms. Any thoughts?

Saturn ls 2000 with v6 engine 26000 miles stalls when driven 3hrs. In 96 weather and idles unstable with air conditioner on it runs Iike it is to hot but temp gauge reads below halfway mark .

try unplugging map sencer, it should be on top side of engine, a black plastic box about 2 inches wide and 3 1/2 inches long, or throttle position sencer could be bad causing engine to idle from high to low. Hope this is some help 2 you.

Car stays on high idle

I have had this happen on saturns before and it has turned out to be a bad intake gasket. The gasket cracks allow extra air to get into the engine causing it to idle high. It also will normally have the check engine light come on indicating a cylinder misfire. 4 thumbs up is appreciated if this helps

97 Saturn sc1 engine lacks power after warming up.

Check to make sure that one of the pulleys are not sticking on your serpentine belt line, or better known as the belt drive. Such as an alternator that is that seizing up, or a bad power steering pump.

Saturn 2001 SL idles in neutral between 2000 and 3000 after engine gets warmed up. also blower for heater has bad resistor were is it located so i can replace it?

high idle concern is probably caused by either a sticking throttle plate, defective IAC or the computer is commanding the high idle for another reason.

the blower motor is found behind the glove box in the HVAC case

2001 saturn high idling

the intake manifold gasket at cylinder #1 shifted over and is causing a vacuum leak,,,,,if its a SL1,SC1,SW1,,the single cam engines only had this issue not the twin cam,you need a new intake manifold gasket, gasket is like $20-$40,,but labor is about $450 unless you can do it,but its very involved

Service soon light on, how do I reset

I purchased a hand held Code Reader at WalMart for around $100.00. The reason your Check Engine light is coming on is that you need to "Check your Engine!" If you have a service manual it will tell you what the codes mean. I had Check Engine Light on for months because I had a high idle speed of over 2,000 RPM. I kept digging on the Saturn Forum website because I could figure out what was causing the high idle. Finally after about 6 months of the annoying Check Engine Light coming on I finally figured out that I had a blown intake manifold gasket. I changed the damn thing and now the light stays off! Imagine that! The Code Reader will also reset you engine so the "Check Engine Light doesn't come back on until the computer senses that there is still a problem.
