Question about Chevrolet Silverado 1500

2 Answers

I cannot get my 1999 Silverado to go into 2wd. It is in 4dw hi. I've replaced the pushbutton control switch on the dash with a new one, and replaced the solenoid on the front diff with a used one. The fuses are OK and when you pull the fuse and reinsert it, you can hear the relay making up under the dash.

Ckeck the acuator motor on the transfer case it may be burned out. With the key on (motor off) transmission in nutral try switching from 2 to 4 wheel drive and back you should hear the acuator moror run folowed by a click each time you activate the switch.

My 1999 Chev Silverado heater control will switch to A/C on it's own

I had this problem occur on another vehicle of mine and it freaked me out for awhile. But I found that the AC pushbutton was semi-stuck and whenever I went over a somewhat significant bump the controls would switch over to AC. I finally replaced the AC pushbutton and the problem went away. I am assuming that you have a pushbutton, right?

Doom & under dash lights will not turn off

Try this, remove the trim that covers the headlight switch, use a flat tip screwdriver and depress the tangs holding the headlight switch in place, pull the headlight switch toward you along with the wires, unplug the headlight switch from the electrical connection, if the dome light goes out, chances are you have a bad headlight switch. Good luck, Gary

4wd wont switch out of 4 hi if it does goes to

Most likely the actuator motor on the transfer case or the switches in the dash, very rarely have I replaced the module under the dash!!
The switches cost around $65.00 and the actuator runs around $400.00 at the dealer for parts,Nether are a hard or complected job!
Hope this helps,Have a Nice Day!

PS From my experience it's probly the actuator motor.

My 4 Hi doesn't seem to work, but my Auto4wd, and 4 Lo seem to work perfectly fine. Any ideas what could be wrong?

the pushbutton control head is a common failure for your model truck, look for a new one in your local parts stores help isle, they are much cheaper than the dealership

1999 Silverado 4x4 won't shift between 4auto, 2wd, and 4wd.

The solder connections frequently break on this model due to stress on the connector of the pushbutton module caused by the wiring harness bouncing in the dash. I put a short write up of how to repair this on our website. Maybe it will be of assistance. Here's the link:

I would try to replace the switch. I believe that chevy had a bunch of problems with the 4x4 switch. I had a message on the display the something was defective with the 4 wheel drive, and it just ended up being the darn switch. Hope this helps.
