Question about BMW 525

1 Answer

I have just fitted new pads to the front of my 1998 bmw 523i almost immediatly after the warning lite came on.just before i changed, the last 15mph or so there was a shuddering till it came to stop.thought it may have been pads on metal, but once removed, there was still some wear left on ones in,and when braking at low speed it persists, but when braking from higher speeds, brakes feel and operate fine, until lower speed, then shudders until i almost feels like the abs is coming on too early??yet no warning light.brakes work fine, but here is also a noise with shudder, almost a slight knock and a bit of a grind?quite a tricky one,i know.can anybody please help????

When you replaced your brake pads did you also replace your rotors??? If you haven't replaced them, I can almost guarantee your rotors are warped and need replacing. Anytime you replace brake pads, replace the rotors as well. That's what i reccomend!

Bmw 5 series 1998 (R) 523i water problem temp gauge hit red water coming out of radiator upon inspection every water pipe was rock solid of pressure !!!!! (PLEASE HELP)

you wont like me if i do? oh well nobody like me anyhow!
if the water jaket built up this much presher its likley to be a stuck thermostat or a blown head gasket,,,,to test for this,, have a "sniffer test" done they take some water out the water jaket and test it to see if it has any hydrocarbons in it,, if it has then its the head gasket poped or a cracked head!
this test takes no longer than 30 seconds to do,,,even stoping for tea!
if you fit a new thermostat first,,,, blead the air out the water jaket as well ,,,,,,,then if it boiles up,,,,its the head gasket?
see,,,you hate me now!!!! dont yer?

BMW 5 series - 2005 model - resetting service & waring lights

the brake pad warning light is controlled by a sensor located in the front and rear brake pads, small contact with 2 wires that plud into a harness, if they are bad I think the replacement cost is around 5-10 dollars for a new one, there will only be one in the front and one in the rear, the service light is turned out by a special tool at the dealer

Brake wear sensors

A couple of things to check.
This is only if you replaced the front pads, after the warning light came on.
1. Make sure brake fluid is level and at the max mark
2. Did you replace the front pads sensors with the new pads.If not please do.
3. Check that the rear pads and sensors are not worn and do not require replacing.
4. If all above is good, Drive vehicle for about 5klm and switch off and on it will reset itself

I hope this helps.

Its not an electrical problem . . .. . When you change brakes you have to change the brake sensor as well. . . . . It just looks like a piece of wire with a sensor that clips onto the pad . . . . .Normally it is the outerpad. . . I cant tell you on witch sides its on cause it may differ from model to model.

Its not going to be a hazardous to the car the brake light will just keep burning.

If you replace the sensor and t he light does not stop burning it may be that your front brakes are also worn but remember just as at the back there is a sensor at the front.
